Hmm. I'm not sure which version of Movie Maker you're using, XP, Vista or 7, but my WLMM, the 7 version, has every feature I need to make movies. Sharing sites don't much like their asf coding or whatever, but I find that the program's fairly feature rich. I don't know of any other software out there besides Adobe, which, to my knowledge, costs a pretty penny, but I'll check back to see what others suggest. I'm interested to know of some that are better than WLMM.

Wax is a free one. I'm not sure how good it is, but it's free. As far as Windows' video editing software - Windows is pretty funny about what they will let you download depending on your OS. Instead of getting it straight from the Windows site, get it from a third-party vendor. They will not require validation of your OS and thus you can install it.

I'm a film student so I make movies all the time. My primary editing software is Final Cut Pro, but that's a Mac-Only expensive industry standard program that I would not recommend for people just looking to throw a few clips together every once and awhile. I haven't used Windows Movie Maker since high school... but I hated it. It crashed ALL THE TIME, and it had pretty lousy tools. I also used Adobe Premier in high school. Once again, it crashed all the time, but at least it had better tools. However, I think it's far too expensive for a program that is not considered industry standard. I've heard good things about Sony Vegas Studio, which is a cheaper program (Cheaper meaning less than a hundred dollars. lol) with lots of great tools. It would depend on what you're looking for. You said Windows Movie Maker has incomplete features and effects... well without knowing precisely what features and effects you were looking for I couldn't recommend anything specific. I think Movie Maker and iMovie (the Mac equivalent) would be best for home videos, family videos, or just short presentations for church or school. If you wanted to do more than that as in starting a business or a high-end YouTube channel, then I'd recommend investing in Sony Vegas.

I didn't expect you to run out and buy a new program... but Movie Maker and iMovie are the only freebies that I know of. I'm sure there are more, but having a high-end editing software at home... I honestly haven't looked for any. lol What exactly is your problem with Movie Maker? Have you been able to get around it?

Thank you for the information. I know i cant use softwares that are used by professionals to make videos and films especially since i only make it as a hobby and it is not my line of specialty. I know It will be also difficult for me to buy softwares that costs a lot of money to make only videos for a thanksgiving program of a friend. I decided to use my resources and make the best video I could make out of it.

Windows movie maker is a free source video editing tool that is packed on your windows computer. Although windows movie maker does produce video editing capacity but it’s effects and other features are really basic and limited. If you want to learn movie editing techniques I suggest you go buy or try professional and prosumer user friendly movie editing tools from Power Director, to the complex of Adobe after Effects. There are trial versions you can find online and the disk memory allotted for the software is not that heavy. The good thing about Power Director and Adobe After effects is that they have high-definition rendering which is approximately 720p to 1080p HD format, this means, that your video produced has high quality and is sharp in terms of its resolution.
