Last March 29, the candidates of this year's bb. pilipinas paraded wearing filipinina-inspired gowns created by the country's top designers. The said event was the pageant's primer. That night it was not only the candidates which were judged, but also the gowns they were wearing. It is during the said event that the national costume to be worn by the next bb. pilipinas-universe will be chosen. It is therefore expected for the winning the gown to embody the filipino culture and the filipina traits. Do you think that the gown worn by Candidate No. 2, Ms. Elizabeth Clenci, deserves the win? What are your thoughts about this?

I just saw this picture earlier as well on some websites apart from the picture you've uploaded. To tell you honestly, the concept seemed nice being it quite unique and all that but I think, the concept of the dress is quite unclear as well. It's too confusing to look at. I mean you get puzzled upon looking the many cuts, embroidery and so on but then instead of admiring the details of the dress, the overall look of it is not that pleasing to the eye. It's supposed to be a national costume or an evening gown right? But surely doesn't look like any of it.

As they say, anything too much is bad. It's not pleasing to look at anymore. And as far as I know, Filipinas are known for their simplicity so why make such an over the top kind of costume that doesn't seem to represent the true beauty of the Philippines and the people living it. A gown or a costume is there to enhance and empower a candidate and not the other way around.

Yep. Too bad it is the dress that won. It is as if we are not sending a candidate in miss. Universe. It seems to me that we are sending a showgirl to represent us. This somehow degrades the image of a real filipina.

I think it is a tribal costume attempting to modern OVERKILLED. You are right, too much of everything makes it confusing.

Helo Rapunzel, How's the voting system? Is text voting considered,or was all for the judges to give the declaration? How come it's a Filipiniana inspired gown? Backless gown, and some part below the pelvis is also showing (wow...is that the modern Maria Clara dressed) I was not able to watch the pageant... have a good day

Hi! I'm not sure how the voting system was. I could only guess that since it's a primer/pre-pageant then the voting was done by judges alone. Normally text votes are done for awards that are given during the pageant night itself. The pageant itself will be held on april 10 so you could still watch if you want to. :) Have a great day too! :)

Oppss! I missed to answer your other question on how it is filipiniana inspired. Perhaps, it is trying to look somewhat tribal and feminine. Maybe the material also are native. Not sure though. What i'm quite sure though that it does not embody the modern day maria clara. Maybe it is inspired by the modern day magdalena.

I wasn't able to watch any Bb. Pilipinas Pageant for this year. I guess the only time I'll be watching is when it's already the final night. I'm rooting for the one who was a tricycle driver before. I don't know her name but she has an awesome story.

i'm not updated with the buzz regarding bb. pilipinas. i just learned about this from Facebook. I have a friend who designed the gown of one of the candidates. He had the photo of the gown he created posted. It was really lovely. I browsed through the comments and most of them said that his gown should have won instead of the one picked as the winner. Out of curiosity, i searched on the subject and looked for the picture of the dress that won, and whola! i couldn't help but agree with all the comments.

That was an evening dress? A gown? A national costume? Brrrr, if that is Philippine outfit, I wouldn't want to wear it. Nope. Nah. No way. Give me the malong, the tapis, the balintawak, the patadyong, the terno, the bahag anytime. But not the one in the photo. I don't know what that is!

hahaha... i don't know what to call that too! :) it might be a costume but it ain't so national don't you think so? i myself won't wear that too! it's sort of hazardous to ones health. If that would be our national costume, i wouldn't wonder if the case of pneumonia in the country would be soaring high. :)

the gown is nice but I don't think it is a nationally inspired gown. It also doesn't show Filipino culture and traits. It was very backless which doesn't really represent the Filipinos for we are known to be conservative.

i have the same opinion as you do. it's just way too revealing for us, i guess. it's only the head dress that is missing. if the candidate had worn a head dress with it, i would mistake the gown as a national costume for a latin american country or perhaps i would mistake the candidate as a showgirl

A showgirl is what it really looks like. Too bad the judges didn't had any criteria that it should somehow be more or less shows how we Filipinos are.

well, i don't think so. i think that gown is very creative in style but very revealing as well, i think it does not represent the filipinas and our culture fillipina's are known to be as conservative type of women so why should they chose to create a gown that would represent us?

i actually don't know with the judges who adjudged the above gown as the best. could it be that this is one manifestation of our major major problem with "identity"? it is one of the crisis that we just can't get over if we will base this on the results of the "best in national costume" judging.

Quite an interesting dress here. Wish I could have seen the front part of it, but it is quite pretty. Did she win? I definately do compliment the designer on this dress and it's look.

i would have posted the front view here but i guess there's no option for me to do so. there's no upload photo option down there. Anyway, the front part is just like the back, a bit revealing. The dress comes with a native instrument i think (it belong to the strings family i think, look like a banjo or some kind). The dress is interesting and very adventurous, but believe me Krause, it doesn't describe the traditional "us". The dress won. But i guess, in the wrong competition. You'll get to see it when you watch the Ms. Universe competition for this year.
