Why Do Cats Like Sleeping On Bags?

No, I don't mean horrible old women, I mean shopping bags or - in Mum's case a rucksack. A few months ago I joined an organisation called UBS and decided to write to a guy they recommended who - originally, is from St Lucia and has been in England (London) since about 1960. At Christmas he visited some relatives over there and brought back a bag..and he sent it to me as a present. He's a Sagittarius so he takes his time with these things so I only received it today..and very nice it is too. Anyway, the cat has taken to sitting on it now. Her "usual" cover has been washed but she sat on it before I did this. Does anyone know why cats have this fascination with bags? It doesn't look that comfy to me so I'm a bit baffled!

Why do cats sit/sleep on anything? There, you have a nice soft bed and they lay on the floor, or a nice clean pillow and they are laying on your shoes... They will do as they do do and that is all there is to that!

Angel3yes: Why yes, in Texas, without air conditioning, they lay on the cement floor a LOT!

You're cats sleep on the floor, ever!!! My cats think the floor is for animals, which they most definately aren't. They veg out on the couch or in a bed. NEVER the floor for our aniamls.

My pride likes to sleep on anything, including plastic bags, trash bags (if they are not full) pieces of cardboard and of course in boxes. As well as any other thing they can plop their furry behinds on. I have just chalked it up to the realization that cats are weird.

Yes they are! Especially when they try to get in a box filled with Avon........Goofs. That stuff cannot be comfy to walk on.

It is either the smell of what it was made from or the smell of the person who handled it the most. Or the smell of new. Anyway, I think it is the smell.

It might be the smell but holy cow, my cat will sleep on absolutely anything plastic. She will lay inside plastic bags and curl up inside plastic wrapping for anything. We try to pick them all up because we're scared we will wake up to find her sufforcated in the morning sometime!!

The bag has an unusual smell so I guess it could be that.

cats must sit on everything.especially new stuff.and more so if they live with other cats.it's a game of "mine's!" mine prefer pillows to bags.they seem to have figured out the usage of them.

Flojo is back on my pillow as I invited her into my room. She had a spell of sleeping on the landing at night and I thought she looked a bit "lost" so I coaxed her in and the pillow has become her favourite place to sleep again..for now!

Our cats are barn-cats, and they like to sleep on feed bags in the stable. Some times they will go into the hayloft and sleep on the hay. Often several will curl up together and sleep in the hay.Cats are nocturnal (they hunt at night) and this is why you see them sleeping in the daytime. We keep cats around the barns to keep the mice and rats in check.

Not all cats are nocturnal, let me tell you. Our three cats sleep all day and when its bedtime, they always join us in bed. The only one of them that shows movement gets up slightly before us because she wants her breakfast and throws bouncyballs around the house until someone gets up to feed her.

For the same reason they like sleeping in boxes?

This is how spoiled the cats are in my house. We bought some cookware shortly after christmas and one of my cats was so psyched about the box laying there that she took to it and started sleeping in it. I came back from vacation and my parents had even placed a blanket in there so that she would be comfortable in her new surroundings. Even I thought that was a bit much.

Cats are strange animals that don't show any logic that we can figure out. These things must just be comfortable for them my cat likes sleeping on a laptop or a keyboard for a pc on my mums desk.

The cats are animals that hide by day and come out at night . they are sensitive to light and like to sleep in the concealable and dark place in the daytime so nothing is better than the bags.

I think its just normal for cats. Cats are different just like people does. My cat loves to get inside a plastic bag or bags just like your cat. Her name is charlotte,I can even carry her around while she can sleep inside my bag while heading to my friend for a visit.

Aww how cute! My cat has a new thing..she actually likes being picked up now (when it suits her) to be cuddled. I ask her if she wants a hug and if she does she will position herself so I can pick her up. She's only started doing this recently and I love hugging her so much. Welcome to MyLot!

sometimes cats are hard to read... we have a cat who sleeps wherever she wants to sleep even at the end she might be step-on because she usually sleep on where most people in our home walks-on... cats also loves getting your attention and I guess your cat just want your attention...

I think that it's just comfortable for them to sleep on bags :D But you can't say that all cats like to sleep on bags, because my cat never sleeps on a bag and i hope he never going to sleep on bag.

I know cats are inquisitive and mine is no exception. Seeing my new bag for the first time..well, she just couldn't help herself and sat on it lol. She's back on her cover now as I've washed it and it's nice and dry..and very fluffy, which she likes!
