Hi mylotters a few days ago I decided to be more active on monetizing blogs. Something that I can do better if I register my own domain and build my own blog site. I plan on buying/registering a domain on godaddy or namecheap I have a few questions: 1. when I register a domain, how do I start using it do I need to setup a server or something? 2. does registering with godaddy or namecheap come with the hosting service (like number 1), and if it does, is the CMS included? 3. If CMS is not included, what free CMS could you suggest, I don't plan on making a CMS myself. I'm not that good at php Hope you can help me out guys. Thanks :)

Forget blogger. They can cancel your account in a whim! I don't even fool with blogger anymore, not for the pro blogger. You are wise to set up your own self-hosted blog like you are doing. Wordpress.org is the leading blogging platform that most everyone is using these days. Be advised that if you want full control over your blogging empire, then you must not only purchase a domain name, but hosting as well. You will need to set the domain servers to match with your hosting account. I use hostgator and netfirms for mine but there's lots of others out there that are good too. P.S. I help build blogs for free for people who purchase domain name and hosting through me. Best Wishes & Happy blogging!

Thanks for the support. My seo friend said the same thing to me. He's actually the one who convinced me to self host. Could you give me a quote on your domain name and hosting service? I'm planning on a .com top-level domain. I'm canvassing for domain and hosting service prices. Thanks :)

Hi knicnax, I pay usually $6.95 for domain name per year and hosting 1 cent to start and usually $9.95 per month thereafter.

P.S. Don't get caught-up trying to get the lowest price, especially on hosting. you should go for quality first and then decent pricing next because chances are that most likely you will be hosting on a shared hosting account. And you want a quality hosting that monitors the quality of all the websites that they allow to host with them. This protects your sites from going down in a flame rather than if you go with some cheap joe blow hosting that has spam accounts, scam websites and everything else flying all over the web right next to yours. You don't want this believe me. I thoroughly shopped the market before making my decision and I'm glad I did.

Hi, If you're beginner that wants to create your sites for monetizing purposes, i suggest you use wordpress because the tools is user friendly like blogging.. I haven't reg for wordpress yet.. but i will get it done as soon as i completed my blog.. talking about CMS, even if it is free, it will still require plenty of your efforts, unless we hire someone to get it done The same question i ask frm friends who is good with SEO, they suggest to purchase domains and hosting from same provider, it is advisable too avoid complication, in case of there is technical problem. So rent hosting package and domain from recommended host also will increase search result for your sites! btw if you r not good with CMS yet, y dont u start with something more simple to monetize your website? :) Cheers!

I actually decided to move my blogger accounts to wordpress but my seo friend told me it wouldn't make any difference unless i self-host. I have no problem setting up the CMS, I just don't want to code it from scratch. Back in college, we had a project where we needed to create a CMS. It was a NIGHTMARE! Also, what do you mean with: btw if you r not good with CMS yet, y dont u start with something more simple to monetize your website? :) ? Do you have suggestions? I really need all the help I can get. Also thanks for the advise on domains and hosting. I'll get the service from one provider, just like you said. Thank you very much
