I am traveling to england from america to visit family with my 7 month old and my mum. The flight is about 8-9 hrs. Does anyone have any advice or things I should take not just for the flight but for the actual trip its self. Incase I have forgot anything....

I have two young children and have traveled with them by plane on long haul journeys. Our latest trip was a flight from London to Cartagena De Indias via Madrid and Bogota. The worst time was the one I did with my disabled son when he was 20 months old. We had a 5 hour delay due to fog and then a 12 hour flight. So therefore I would say pack extra drinks and diapers because a delay in not known about until it happens. When my baby was that sort of age took a lightweight travel cot, four bottles, soy formula powder, diapers and few favorite toys. I took bedding for the travel cot and a method of cleaning my baby's bottles. I packed clothing suitable for the climate that I went to. I live in England and at the moment the weather is hot. So I would suggest a sun shade on your baby's buggy. I hope that you will have a lovely trip to England to visit your relatives.

Thank you. That must have been a hard trip with the delay and then a 12 hr flight. My sister who is picking us up from the airport is going to bring extra drinks for son and I will have plenlty of diapers. And she is borrowing a travel cot from work (she works in a hotle)

It's okay i think. You can take the flight, but you must make sure your infant can sleep well or take a nap because if he/she crying can disturb other passengers.

Yeah, They say they seat the families together. But I do feel for the other passengers but I'm not going to let that stop me from flying. I'm not going to stop my life for them. My son doesn't sleep well but we'll see. The whole ordeal is going to be a new thing and his good thing new things, and being out and about and is ually really good around new people. So fingers crossed for me. lol

My daughter, her 9 month old daughter, and I flew for about 3 hr. and this is what helped out. We flew when the baby would normally take a nap. We took several extra bottles of water (now you have to take the empty bottles and fill once you pass security. Talk to the flight attendant to find out what they can and can not do to help you(warm a bottle etc). Above all pay the extra to get a seat for the baby it will be more comfortable for you, your mother and your baby. Check with the airline to how they treat a car seat and stroller. Many will not count them as luggage and you can check the stroller at the airplane door and pick it up when you exit the plane.

Yeah I wish I could buy an extra seat for him, but its way too much, thats the reson my husband can't come with us becasue we can't afford another seat. But I will have the stroller and hopfully we will get book a seat with the extra space as they say they allicate these to those traveling with kids. And they say they have to cots for the babies. so fingers crossed for that one.

I am going to travel from US to Hong Kong with my 10 months old(by then) alone. I have read a lot of the articles, tips on the internet. I think there are some tips that I think it is important: pack light, prepare everything for the baby dual like the diapers and clothes, bring your baby's favourite toys, stroller and sling will be useful. At least youwill have your mom with you so you will have a helper for switching to hold the baby but I will be flying alone for almost 20 hours of flight + a stop so... I can't imagine what will happen, just be prepared. So you are flying internationally as well, I wonder if you have to pay 10% of the adult ticket fare? Because I haven't booked the ticket and I saw they charge 10% of the fare for the baby if flying internationally.

Wow good luck to you, thats a long flight, espeically alone. I had to pay a little bit for him, it suppose it was around 10%. I think its to account for the baggage as hey are alowed the same amount as the adult on my flight. I have a baby carrier that I will be using on the flight... I am hoping he will fall asleep on the way there as its at night. And I have brought an umbrella stroller that I hope they will let me gate check but if not then I will be using the carrier till we boad the flight too.
