April Birthstone

April Birthstone - This is one of Mystic Stitch cross stitch patterns. I really love this company's patterns because there are no fractional, halfstitch, or backstitching.
Completely all x's so when you have stitched you bring the pattern to life without all the extra stitching of most of the kitted kits you will find in local craft stores.
This will be a Christmas gift to my 15yr old granddaughter.

I have been working on this piece for my granddaughter. Hope to give it to her for Christmas this year. She just turned 15 so I am sure she will like this type of piece. I am almost finished with page 2. Just thought I would share this with other cross stitchers out there. I have fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome, and spinal desinegration amongst other illnesses. I actually don't notice my pain quite so much when I am keeping occupied with crafting. I do basic knitting just so I can knit blankets for my 2 baby granddaughters (one on the way) Anyway thought I would share my piece with others. Anyone else cross stitch? Would love to view it.

That looks really nice! I haven't done anything on my cross-stitch project since I got home from China. When I was on the plane they wouldn't let me take my scissors so I didn't do much after that. I now have scissors again, but now I am on the computer all the time. Oh well...

I guess I am just addicted to the computer. I have gone to the point recently of reading a book, but that is because my brother forced me to check it out from the library. I couldn't understand the book when I read it in high school, and I doubt that even now I could make the interpretations that the teacher wanted us to make. I am able to read most of it now, but some parts were really hard. Oh well...A floss cutter that looks like a pendant...very interesting!

I cant get addicted to the computer. I have to balance my day and enjoy different things in a day. I guess thats why my cross stitching is important because I put it in as a part of my day. My girlfriend in Canada taught me that. Fortunately for her she has more time in the day than I do. She is widowed and lives alone. I have a husband, a son still living at home, and my daughter come home to have her second baby so we have a 17 month old toddler running around. So I have to keep everything up til I can get time to myself to work on it. But I am managing! yes I have flown and no scissors allowed on plane but I found a unigue piece that looked like a pendent that is actually a floss cutter. So I managed to be able to get my stuff on the plane LOL

I love to cross stitch, and while I agree that I don't like halves and back stitching, I'm also aware of the fact that I lack the "attention span" of large projects so I generally stick to smaller ones that do have half stitches and, back stitching.

I do, I actually have gotten into beading now, so I also rotate my projects around, either beading, cross stitching or needlepointing.

WEll said and when you actually see how many pages a pattern can be to complete the project it seems overwhelming. But when you just sit in the comfort of your home for an evening and stitch for the joy of it, I am able to take the type of stitching i am doing in sections and I don't get overwhelmed. I will soon be on page 3 and am really excited to start it. HOpe you are enjoying your projects.

That's quite the piece of cross stitch! I would love to do it, but I can't handle the tiny stitches without my eyes going crazy. Some of the pictures are beautiful. Your granddaughter will surely appreciate it. There's a grandbaby on the way in our family, too, and I intended to knit a blanket but I may not get it done in time. I just had surgery and my arm isn't ready for the repetitive motion of knitting.

aww so sorry about your surgery and hope you are healing nicely! Thank you for the compliment. I learned to do the basic knit stitch from my girlfriend she actually sat on the phone with me from Canada and taught me. I wanted to learn because there is an online organization that sent a blanket to my husband's daughter's baby because she was very ill. We lost her at 21months old. So I was determined to learn to knit because Mary needs 4" squares for baby blankets. I dedicated my knitting to Haile that passed away. I don't always get many done but I send her what I can every 3 months and she is greatful for whatever I have. She accepts any size squares but she said most people like doing the 6 ot 12 inch squares and she is always in need of the 4" So I buy a couple of baby colors and contrast by doing as many of them as I can. I learned to cast on and knit, but never got the purl stitch til I went to the library and a group of women finally got it through my head how to do it LOL. But I have to admit, cross stitching I would rather do than knitting LOL. Have a wonderful evening.

Thank you. I learned to knit as a young teenager and that was many years ago, but I've never knitted for charity. Kudos to you for doing it. I envy you being able to cross stitch like that.

Tapestry. - I did this tapestry over a long period of time. The frame was very expensive so I was cheesed off when it started to chip and peel. It is covered in non-reflective glass which the framer insisted was correct. I always thought tapestries and other needlework was left open. It is protected under the glass however.
I rarely do any crafts now. I have done tapestry though. I have one framed and one almost finished that I began 30 or so years ago. It's rather big and now has become grubby with use and age and I don't know quite how to clean it. Mine is worked with DMC thread, it has a lovely soft lustre and is easy to work. I found a beautiful tapestry of magnolias on a deep cherry back ground that goes really well in my rich purple room with burgundy curtains. That one is worked in wool.

I thought I had commented here on your response and saw I only commented on your tapestry picture. I used to do needlepoint with the wool type yarn. My best friend in Canada talked me into learning cross stitch. I thought i would not learn since I was working on tapestry with the colors already on the part to work, Well I finally did my first piece a small Santa ornament. From there I have done quite a few 5x7" and even finished two 10x14" I am now working on finishing this one and have two more WIP pieces. thats why I try to not devote to much time to the computer. Though I do enjoy others discussions for company here on Mylot LOL I had 5 children and had to turn my crafting into a business for school, clothes, food etc. When I became disabled I had to quit that craft as it was ceramics and I did the molds, cleaning the greenware, glazing etc, the molds became to heavy for me to lift. So now I call my little crafting Painted Needles because I use a needle instead of a paint brush. I craft now to not notice my daily pain. Greatfully it does take my mind off my pain and I also am able to do a nice gift when finished.
