Does this really make sense?

A woman tells her husband to "stop by the store on the way home and get a gallon of milk, and if they have eggs get six." When the husband gets home she says "what are you doing with six gallons of milk"? He says "They had eggs". Can you take things too literally ? I tend to.

This is really funny (hahaha) I think this really happens when someone is not paying attention. This reminds me of a friend who gets really pissed off when her house maid also taken the instruction literally and spoils the food which is intended to be one of the special menu for her visitors. Have a great Sunday

haha, that is funny! No wonder husband and wife always quarrel! I think in the first place, the instruction is not that clear. if the wife tells her husband to get a gallon of milk, and six eggs, the dear husband will not misunderstand the statement. I think the way we give instruction is very important. Those who work in the supervisory positions will know how hard to give clear, concise and precise instruction. When I taught the intern to complete the requisition form for stationary, I taught her to read the catalogue, and then to write the item code. I added that the easiest way is to write everything in the listing for that particular item. She did exactly, even to the point of copying 200 rolls of double sided tape. Fortunately our purchaser had common sense enough to ask why we needed 200 rolls of double sided tape! Otherwise we would have used up all the budget for this year.

You can't take it too literally.I feel the person is absentminded. His memory is weak and he confused the two statements making a mess of what his wife wanted. All in all its the work of an absent minded professor.

Gosh, this was a bit funny- if we weren't in the shoes of the wife.. I think the husband didn't listen well, or it's just a plain misunderstanding.. This just teaches people to listen and comprehend well, or ask questions..

Wow now that is literal... Personally I would have asked 6?? Because one gallon here will spoil as we don't use a whole lot of it. So I would not have taken that one literally. lol

It's a mistake for sure but it sometimes happen. I once asked my little brother to go to the store and buy "snow bear" and "white rabbit" candies ( they are candies in the Philippines, the first is menthol and the latter caramel flavored.)A few minutes later he came back with nothing, saying that the store does not sell SNOW WHITE candies!
