Would you adopt a dog?

I know that if everyone in this world is well educated about puppy mills, they would chose to adopt in a heartbeat. But many people, including celebrities opt to buy a puppy from the pet shop rather than adopt. It's hard to find a certain breed that you want so much and I would love to buy every dog from the pet shop rather than just leave them there but it kills me to know that dogs who have been through a lot are still behind those bars. What do you think?

As far as I'm concerned there are NO excuses to buy from a pet shop or breeders, and support puppy mills. I don't think there's anyone who isn't aware of the issues surrounding pet stores. And you can find any breed you want in shelters or rescues. There are TONS of breed specific rescues. And 20% of dogs in shelters are pure breeds....so that's not an excuse either. I will never buy from a pet shop, or a breeder. I will only rescue my animals.

Yes I would have rather adopt. I actually adopted a dog from a shelter and I think that is the better route in going. At least you know that your dog or cat is most likely they have all their shots and the shelter would make sure that they were taken to the vet and that they have no health issues, plus you know that they are up to date on their shots. Also, you know what they have been through and how they have gotten to shelter. Were as if you were to buy a pet from the store or a puppy mill you wouldn't be definitely for sure that they are up to date on their shots and they are healthy.

I am strongly against buying a puppy. My dog is an adopted one. There are lots of Pariah dogs in my place which you can get free of cost and they are very intelligent also. They have high resistance to diseases, unlike other pure breed dogs. But still most of the people want to get a foreign breed like labrador etc. and treat pariah dogs and mutt dogs as dirt. If a person just needs a dog as a companion animal and for guarding the house then a mutt dog/pariah will be more than enough. But those who need dogs for special purposes may consider getting a dog breed which has been bred for that purpose.

To me a dog is a dog no matter where they come from. Just like a human being. Wheather in a mill or petshop. I dont believe a dog belongs behind bars. Animals should roam free as we do. But that will never again be the case. From now on we choose where they go and where they dont. Okay a little off topic. Yes, I would adopt a dog in a heartbeat. They have done so much for me. And thats not a lie.

I am also into dogs and I agree that it's hard to find a dog with a particular breed that you like. Actually, every time I go home, I pass by a pet shop and i would always turn to see puppies of different breeds barking and some are crying. In my case, I can just adopt or buy. I like dogs and I really enjoy having pets around.

I have never buy any dog from the petshop and would never buy too. But I would like to adopt the pets, specially dogs and I have already adopted a small puppy and it is now a big dog in my house.

I think if I am able to adopt a dog, it would not be from a pet shop. I would either go to the pound or get a dog that is destined for the pound if it is not sold or given away in time. I think that puppy mill puppies are generally not as healthy because of the conditions they were brought up in and being stuck in a small cage waiting for adoption can't be good for them either.

Hi Amour, I am pet lover. I have a male 9 month old maltipoo (maltese-poodle). He is very adorable. He is very smart and playful. Whenever I am feeling down I always talk to him like a real person. I tell him my problems as if he understands me... he looks at me and his eyes look sorry for me... it is comforting somehow. i live in a condominium and pets are not actually allowed here particularly noisy ones. good thing, Tobey is a good dog. He doesn't bark unless it's necessary. if i were you, i'd adopt one. dogs are stress-relievers!

I have two pure breeds both from adoption. Our lab was abandoned at my husbands job and is the best doggy ever. M y hound was to be going to the SPCA when my husband was offered him for free. They are the only pure breeds we have ever had. Our hound is very healthy and (we have AKC paperwork for him) had good breeders no cross line or any such nonsense and breed from a home. We visited to when in South Carolina out of curiosity and they had no cages at all. Our lab though has horrible over breeding issues from abnormal arteries to extra nipples. Her hips are very bad already and she is only 6 years old. I would never buy from a puppy mill but I would adopt from one of the many shelters be they mutts or pure breeds. I have only ever adopted one pet from a SPCA (a kitty) as all have come to us via other means. One found in a truck stop, a friends cat had kittens, a family member who found a mama cat and her kittens. I love my fur babies.

It really makes no sense to pay money to buy a dog from the pet shop. There are so many fine dogs waiting for adoption at the SPCA, pure breeds or mutts. I would love to see more strict laws about dog breeding. And please, stop breeding dogs in a way that would bring inherited pain and deceases. There are enough "pure breeds" that are born with defects being breed into their genes.

I would consider any option when I make a desicion to have a dog as a family member. Either from a pet shop, breeder or adopt a dog from a shelter. There is always a way to make a dog happy and healthy.

I feel sad for puppies in Pet Shops. I want to adopt them all, becuase I hate to see them trapped in that small box. There really shouldn't be petshops like that anymore. Dogs in Pet Shops require higher maintenance. It is not advised to buy dogs from pet shops because it's difficult for them to adapt to the outside environment. And I would rather rescue animals. :)

Yes. But not today, not in a year or two, not in seven years I guess. I am not really into dogs, but I find SOME of them cute. Maybe I'd adopt one when I'm older. I should learn to love them first. :

helen you had said that point correctly even my best frnd has brought a puppy from a kennel shopas being there are newly born lambroder puppies next to his home. i think that people are keeping more belief in petshops that they get good pets only from there
