After watching the movie, RIO, it made me want to go to Brazil and take part with the colorful festive parade they celebrate yearly. I think Brazil is such a beautiful place. I also watched previous episodes of ANTM where they traveled to Brazil. Although some parts of the country were not as tasteful but some tourist spots are still worth going to. I also love wearing slippers from havaianas and ipanema. I wish could buy even just one pair from there, someday. I also adored "the girl from ipanema". I think she's such a legend. She reminds me of what i want to be when I get old - still feeling young and carefree :))

Brazil (and particularly Rio) is renowned worldwide for two things: the carnival and the terrible split between the poor and the rich. Yes, it looks like great fun to go for mardi gras and to have lots of fun in such a colourful parade, but bear in mind the slums just miles away from the huge mansions. You might get a bit of a shock if you expect Rio to be all pretty sights and happy people.

Thanks for that thought SpikeTheLobster. I will keep that in mind once we plan to go there. I live in a country right now where the sight is a toss between good and bad. Some parts nice, some parts not so nice. I don't think i would get too shocked and overwhelmed when I get there. ;)

From accounts I've heard from friends and acquaintances, it's not the fact that there are rich and poor. It's the incredible difference - huge shiny mansions of ultra-rich people a short walking distance from enormous slums containing homes made out of cardboard and housing thousands of people with barely enough money to buy food for the day (and a government/society that does nothing to change things). I've never been, myself, but it's definitely off the list of places I want to visit. I don't think I could face that much intense human misery without breaking down or having it haunt me for the rest of my life. As I say, I haven't been. It might be different now.
