What do you think of the Indian army chief statement about a military strike?

The Army chief has stated that India has the capacity to make a commando strike inside Pakistan to kill or abduct a hidden terrorist. Supposing India sends a commando team to karachi and captures and brings back Dawood Ibrahim what do you think will be the reaction of Pakistan? I am more interested in what would be the reaction of USA, UK,Australia and France? If USA can get away with usch an act and rean accolades and bouquets for such a 'brave and daring raid' why should India not carry out such a raid and nail the terrorists hiding in Pakistan? Now that USA has shown the way why should India lag behind?

Questions are already being raised about how legitimate the American operation was under International Law. The Pakistani view is that it was a violation of sovereignty and I am very much inclined to agree with them. I suspect that, once the evidence is properly known and International lawyers consulted, other countries will tend to condemn America's action, although it could be argued that there were valid tactical reasons why Pakistan was not first informed or consulted. It also now becomes clear that Osama bin Laden was unarmed when he was killed and that raises a separate and very serious question about the violation of human rights to a fair trial. America is by no means innocent or acting in a fair and just way, it appears, though what will or can be done about it is another matter. If India were to attempt a similar operation in Pakistan, it would clearly be a violation of sovereignty and, since India is a smaller power than the USA, doubtless more would be said and done about it.

Nothing is clear.Doubts will persist till USA decides to share proof of the killing. If big brother USA is going to continue bullying it has to be prepared for far worse attacks than 9/11 but who will suffer? the innocent people of this world. I don't know what will happen if the biggest terrorist Bush is targeted by the terrorists. They will not hesitate to show his decapitated head to the world on live TV. USA is proving to a bigger terrorist and it enjoys the tacit support of UK,Australia, FRance and Germany. It will not take long for the emerging powers to line up against these bullies.

Owlwings I am not agreeable to Pakistan's contention that it is a violation of sovereignty. When the offensive was undertaken, it was through the UN. Pakistan is part of that. It was obligatory on part of Pakistan to do everything right for the world's peace. Since it was the member, and allowed the US to do what it could on its soil, it cannot say you may do this, and not do that to kill terrorism. The objective was clear. Stop terrorism. If Pakistan does say that it is wrong on the part of the US to have done that, it indirectly admits that it is providing safe haven to these terrorists. So raising that issue is a bit tricky, dont you think?

i have not heard this news and if it is true i find it irrisponsible on behalf of the General involved in the statement. I believe it will be nothing more than posturing and ruffling of feathers to maximise any embarrassment caused by the lack of warning the US gave the Pakistan government.

Its already too late, the bird has flown. Dawood Ibrahim has been safely spirited away to the biggest haven of terrorists Saudi Arabia. Let the Indian general come up with a statement now. The panicky reactions from Pakistan only expose it further. It is a failed state and USA has already taken over. One more strike from USA inside Pakistan will confirm the obvious.

I think first the Indian Army chief needs to be declared as senile and asked to step down. We all have nuclear capabilities, in case he'd forgotten. Any wrong step now could lead to severe repercussions for everybody. There has to be some maturity when a person talks. What US did or does is not exactly a code book that India needs to follow. Remember US too had its moments of shame in Vietnam. And India too has suffered some thanks to interference with Srilanka's sovereignty. You know what, India is the only large nation in the world that does not have a friendly neighbor anywhere. Pakistan, China, Burma, Bangla Desh, and Sri Lanka. That is what happens when we select political leaders who get third class in their academic performance. In contrast, the US shares good relations with Canada, though its relationship with Mexico remain a suspect. But nothing as bad as it is between India and Pakistan. In short I think it would be dumb.

I have no objections to anybody being gobbled by anybody as long as nobody is gobbling me and my country. :)

The army chief is likely to get one year's extension thanks to wrong registration of birth, it is believed he is younger than his records show. Apparently USA has forgotten that Pakistan has nuclear capabilities.Gimme a break Vandy. These rogues across the border are cowards and will wet their pants they face resistance. If India decides to invade Pakistan no country can intervene because we can claim that we are undoing the partition and we want to rescue our erstwhile fellow citizens who are heading towards economic ruin. Like America has a grand plan to end terrorism we can come up with our slogans. Pakistan is being gobbled up by USA and we are standing by and watching like fools.

I do not support the statement that you quoted concerning india following the footstep of america to attack pakistan to capture a terrorist. America is already getting discredited and condemned in the international arena for violating the sovereignty of pakistan. I do not see a situation where a visitor becomes the host automatically. The best way for america to conduct themselves was to involve Pakistan in their planned raid. Having got rid of osama bin laden they should have handed the body to the pakistani government. Throwing it into the sea was a violation of the culture of the islamic republic of pakistan.
