Have you ever seen such a funny method punishing a thief?

the most funny punishment - See,a thief was glued up to a wire pole!
China

Haha,I have just seen a picture that a thief was glued to a wire pole through Yahoo picture news! As we know, everyone hates thieves because they aren't stupid, but they always want to do nothing but stealing to get what they need.If a thief is caught by the loser(s),he is doomed to receive some punishment. But anyone who hurt someone else including a thief is against the law,he'll be punished by the police. So finding a proper way that can punish the caught thief meanwhile be safe to both the thief and the catchers must be very necessary. I admit I cannot find such a good way,but a moment ago I saw a wonderful solution:Somebody has tied a thief with big-size scotch tape up to the middle of a streetside wire pole! And all the passersby are feeling so funny. Have you seen the similar thing?

That's funny. Not all criminals need to go to jail, jail is overcrowded anyway. I totally believe in alternative punishments.

There have been plenty of cases in the US where petty criminals are not given jail time but have been publicly embarrassed for their crimes. Jails are over crowded so they have to think of ways to save money and punish offenders.

Aren't they afraid of the International Human Right Group?

Haha,I agree with you.But what you said will never be accepted by the law of the USA.

Yes,once a thief is caught, mostly he'll be beaten brutally since the people hate them so much, unless there are policemen around.

Yes,I think it's deserved for the thief to be punished like that, but it's really safe for him and the catcher.

Hi, Its really a funny punishment, but it is very hard for an individual to take it... Because no individual including thiefs like to be in a such a position people making fun, laughing at them... Moreover he will be noted by many... He should feel ashamed about his act and atlest now he should realize watz right way... This should be an eye opener for him or many such individuls like him... Hope he will change.. :) Regards, Prasmit

Yes,that should be an effective method to the people who do stealing. But it's hard to say there'll be a good consequence we are expecting because most of the thieves are nuts.

Ha ha Oldsix do you know that you made me laugh for this post. When I was a child, my grandpa was happened to be the Barangay Chairman that time, His punishment for those who thief was, he let them walked in the street accompanied by Barangay officials, wearing only underwear, while they were walking they were shouting that they are stealer and shouting also the things that they were steals. Because of that way of punishment imposed by my grandpa, thief in our place was minimized.

Hehe, the way is so good, but it's also against law nowadays in China.

In olden days in few remote places they used shave their head and mustache half for those who are found guilty and they would make them run half-naked in their village.

I've heard of that before, but that kind of thing isn't allowed now.

That is a great punishment! But the only other thing I would have included would be a sign saying why he was up there like that (or was there one?). It would be humiliating for the thief and like you say, it would be safe for the loser since no one is being hurt. The sign saying why he was up there might deter others from attempting the same thing and it might give other people who have been in the same situation an idea of a way to get back at their attacker.

There was no such sign telling the reason, but while he's gluing, the people nearby in the street must have known what he had done,I thinnk. Sometimes we cannot expect that one good turn deserves another. If the thief has lost conscience, the loser might be get back soon.Take care!

This is funny to us.. but not for that guy.. I think this is cruel..if the person is a thief they should have reported or just hand him over to the police.. I have many such cases where people take the decision of punishing a person which they do not have the rights to do..
• China

Yes,we don't have right to punish a thief according to the law in China. So the best way for us to do is to hand him over to the police to be on the safe side.

That's a good way of holding the thief while waiting for the police to arrive. Furthermore, one can humiliate the thief whereby everybody can see and know what he has done to deserve that. I've always had that in mind when if i ever caught anybody breaking the law. It's better to humiliate them than to hurt them because wounds can heal but emotional damage will always be there.

If a thief will give up what he does, the punishing methods like that can always do him good. But if he's a nut, neither hurting nor humiliating can change him.

At first glance, the picture worked off my anger.May well say, nobody doesn't hate the thieves.Putting them before the public and taking them down a peg,no doubt most people may clap and cheer. However,if we calm ourself down and think of it,we must feel that the way of doing thing is open to question. The thieves are people too.We ought to respect their personality, what is more,we must do everything according to the law.
• China
15 May 11
Yes,I agree with you.But the person who gave the punishment to the thief must know the law cerconed, and so he just gave the thief such a funny and slight punishment though it's against the law somehow.

One time I saw a kid wearing a sign that said, "I got caught stealing and this is how my mother punished me." He was walking up and down the busiest street in town. Now I laughed, but it must have been embarrassing for him. Imagine what he's friends thought. I can bet though, he has not stolen anything since. If he does/did I can't even imagine the next level of punishment. Best Wishes!

If he's not bad at all and loved his mother,he would give up stealing again, that's really a good lesson for him,I think.

When I was in grade school, one of my schoolmate caught by our teacher stealing the money from her bag. There were many times this situation happened to other student and co teacher. The teacher ask why he do that, the child said, he needs the money to buy food. But the truth is, he stole the money to buy toys. The teachers bought different kinds of food equivalent to the amount he stole. They said to the boy, if you really steal just to buy food, then as a punishment you have to eat all these food for 1 hour " You have to eat it, or else we will send you to jail". You know the amount he stole is php 3,000. I guess the child was choke and suffer stomachache during that time.

I knew that more than once a student or even a pupil stole money of the teachers and they always had their excuse. But what your teacher did next really broke the law,I think you know now.

Oh!it is really interesting,I think the thief will be very depressing, because it is a very uncomfortable, again say, were passers-by looking back, that is a how embarrassing! So we will never hanky panky,or decent person, because such a life is the best!

It would be a good lesson for the thief as well as an unforgettable shameful experience for him. I wish he would be a good citizen without any more stealing later on. Now I am wondering what his friends and family are thinking about when they happen to see this picture.
