I found a Snake's Skin

Philippines
May 15, 2011 10:54am CST
Hello! Today is a very hot day. I went under the mango tree in our backyard to have a rest. While staying there, I saw a hole besides the Chicken cage. As I walk forward to look it, I was surprised because I saw a snake's skin, but the snake was not there. I got a stick to take the skin out of the hole. Please see the picture. I and my brother believed that the snake is a Philippine Cobra.

You need to be careful then, maybe the snake is inside that hole. have you checked if you lost any chicken? If it is a cobra,it's really dangerous and scary. have a good day

If you find snake's skin, therefore, there are snakes living there. That is actually common in many areas in the Philippines, including here in my area. We find snakes at least once a month in our vicinity both small ones and huge ones. The biggest was around an arm's width. It's really something terrifying and therefore we always make sure that hiding places could be eliminated because we have little kids in the house. There was even one occasion when a snake killed our little puppy, it was sad because he was such a cute puppy - I guess he was so little that the snake mistook him for a rat or a cat. Whew! You should be careful though, cobras are dangerous therefore should be treaded carefully - perhaps hiring someone to look for it and kill it or transfer it to a place were it should not be of danger to anyone.

Most definitely the snake was not there, because such skin has been left over then will go somewhere to take food. But still check might be still around and you are the next food to eat by it. Can you describe how big the snake or cobra is you are talking about? see you around

I couldn't find the picture. Mostly, when snakes change their skin, I think, they leave right away. Maybe you could have seen the snake if it wasn't long before it changed it's skin. So, when you saw the snake skin, how did you initially react? Scared? or maybe curious? :)

Hi. princejhaizee. I was unable to see the picture of the snake's skin. It may just be a Philippine Cobra snakes skin. I suggest that you be very careful as you are outside relaxing. Snakes are usually outside nearby many trees. Stay safe and be on alert at all times too!

i think, it might be a Philippine Cobra, i think you should be careful, but i don't think they stay in one place very long, they tend to move around a lot after shedding their skin so you might be lucky.

Well, you've not added any pictures. :) But you did remind me of our school days when we got to walk on Saturdays in farms, and saw plenty of such snake skins. Of course, we could never identify the species. We were much too young for that, not that I am any more knowledgeable now. As to cobra, it is dangerous. Ikbooi, one of hte mylotters has suggested that if we use some sulphur powder, snakes will keep away from our home. It has kept scorpions away for sure. But there are some chemicals to keep snakes away from your yard. You might want to find out and try them. Be safe.
