Are you a member of a crafts group?

Some years ago I was a member of a crafts group. We met once a week and the members worked on many different projects. Some members spent the time on sewing, crocheting and knitting and some members made cards, decorated boxes, painted, made jewelry or made sculptures out of clay. Sometimes we were a lot of people and sometimes we were just a few people. It was nice to chat to the others while we worked on our different projects and it was also interesting see what the others were doing. Sometimes I got new inspiration that way. Are you or have you been a member of a crafts group? Do you like to be part of a group or do you prefer to work alone? Why?

I dont know of any crafts groups in my area, but I really wish someone would start a crocheting group. I think I would really enjoy it.

I hope that you will find a crocheting group in your area Since I started this discussion I have been trying to find some members for a crafts group on my island. So far I haven't managed to find members for my group, but I am going to keep on trying. Yesterday I got in touch with someone who also wanted to start a crafts group, but she lives too far away, so we wouldn't be able to start a group together.

I also think that it is nice to work on crafts and talk to others at the same time. At the moment I work alone, because I left my old group when I moved to another part of the country. I hope that I will be able to start a group on the island where I live now. I think that it would be really nice to meet others who are also interested in crafts and it would be nice to be able to work together.

I am a member of a stamping club. We rubber stamp and make greeting cards..and it's so much fun to get together and share ideas! I don't mind working on them alone though either. I also have a friend whom I go visit three times a year and we stamp the whole weekend...try new ideas together...and just have fun!

Your stamping club sounds like a lot of fun. It is nice to be able to share ideas with others and get new inspiration. I have never tried rubber stamping, but I think that it could be interesting to try it. When I make cards I use pictures from old magazines and I try to combine them in funny or unusual ways. I have also made some cards with papercuts but most of the time I use pictures from magazines.

My mom and I were very active in our local crocheting clubs before we moved. I missed the members very much and craved the social interaction with other crocheters. I tried to join a couple of local groups but it was just too difficult with my son being so young. I found myself taking care of him more than being able to socialize or crochet. I even found a few members giving me annoyed looks for bringing a baby to one of their meetings. So, in order to solve that problem, I started my own group. I posted a couple flyers at local yarn and bead shops and one of the local newspapers wrote a really nice article about the group as well. The group started off really small but everyone that came didn't mind my son nor the fact that he was still nursing and that sometimes I had to do just that while we were having our meeting. The group is almost 5 years old now and still going strong. We welcome any craft and have a group of knitters, crocheters, beaders, quilters, paper crafters, lace makers, spinners, weavers... oh, you name it and there is probably someone that does it. :-) We do inspire each other and are our own best cheerleaders when working on those sometimes dreadful projects. Sometimes we have workshops where someone shares a technique or we have knit-a-longs or crochet-a-longs. It's always different but we have a lot of fun. We have also found ourselves in the perfect situation becuase we do not meet at any public place - one other member and myself host the meetings in our own homes so we will never have to worry about losing our meeting places. :-) :-) I love our meetings and miss them when I can't make it to one, but I also do not mind working alone. Since we only meet twice a month, I find myself working alone a lot, but I know that I can just pick up the phone and call one of the members over and we can work together and have some fun. :-) :-) I hope that you will find a group and will work for you. Take care, Pinka pinka_m@yahoo.com

Thanks for sharing your experience with the group. It sounds like a great group and it is nice that you are able to inspire eachother, help eachother and learn from eachother. At the same time you also get the social interaction with others who share your interests. I sometimes miss the social interaction in my old group and I have decided to start a group in my new area. I moved here some months ago and I have been trying to find a crafts group on my island, but I don't think that there are any, so I have decided to do the same thing as you and start my own group. I have posted something online and I also plan on posting something in the shops in my town. I hope that I will be able to find some members

At the moment I also work alone. I just moved to a new town and I don't know anyone here who is interested in crafts, but I am thinking about starting a craft club in my new area. I think that it could be nice to meet others who share my hobbies, maybe we would be able to share ideas and inspire eachother.
