I've always been more of a washcloth and soap girl but for Christmas I got a Gift basket with different shower gels and Loofah sponges.. I use them more often now so I was wondering how long do you use a Loofah sponge before throwing it away? They always get plenty of soap and water so they always clean, they not frazzled or falling apart so my question is...."What is the lifespan of a Loofah sponge"?

I'm guessing you can use it as long as it isn't falling apart. I don't think it really has a expiration date on them. If they last forever just think it saves you money from buying more. Maybe sterilizing it with bleach once or twice a month will help with germs that might build up in them.

I could bleach it or put it in the sun or microwave too. I just thought of that

I notice that you have a puffy in the picture, not a loofah. Which one is it? Loofahs are gourds, and last quite a while. I think that you need to periodically rinse it in bleach water to kill anything else growing in it. I have heard of people getting skin infections from not doing this. The puffy needs to be bleached or put in the microwave. I do not know if the loofah can be microwaved or if it would be damaged. Have fun with the bubbly new gels.

See that shows you how much I know about puffie's and loofah's. I have both but I use the so called puffie's...What a cute name. Thanks for your help and I'm sure you got something there with the bleach and microwaving, that works on quite a few things

In the wild, they last 2 - 3 weeks owing to predators etc, but kept in captivity in a nice warm bathroom, fed regularly and given bubble bath tops to play with, they can last 2 - 3 months, same as haggises (or is that haggi?) Unlike Gremlins, they MUST be given water, or they go hard and fall apart. Like my one did. Sweet, dear likkle Benji, too young to die ...
