The need to save bettery of laptop comes because you want to use laptop for a longer period of time. One method is to switch to standby mode if you are not using laptop for a while. The another one is to close multiple window:Many computer users open multiple windows either they are using only 1 to 2 windows. So these all extra windows should be closed if you want to save power of your laptop. Give your suggestions then i will add more.

since I am blind and unable to see, I use the built in voice on my mac called voiceover. So to save battery on my computer I not only put the computer to sleep when I'm not using it but I also leave the screen off most of the time. It saves a lot of battery. I can go through my school day from 6:40 to 4:00 and by doing those two things still have battery power in the end of the day.

nisa -- It is extremely nice of you to participate in such discussions. You get them typed manually or through voice. I understand voice recognition software is there which can help you get it typed. Since when are you blind and if I am not inquisitive what was the problem that caused blindness?God will certainly give you the required strength to tide over the life waves. blessings and have a good day.

Don't know for sure, I'm also suffering the short duration of my laptop battery and trying to reduce power consumption. Have a look at the power settings, you will find a few "power plans", high performance, balanced and economizer. By using the economizer you battery will last longer, at the price of reduced performance. Also, try to avoid resource intensive programs, like games, video players, and everything that can use a great amount of CPU. USB devices are also hungry too, as does the CD drive if you have one. Normally, if you use normal desktop applications, web browsing and chat, you battery should last the most time possible. But if you want additional features, it will eat up more energy faster.

I did not know that opening more windows could lead us to wasting more power. Thanks for sharing your tip. I think, when not in use, we should completely switch on the devices rather than keeping in on stand by mode, to save more power.

thanks dpk , here is another for you if you reduce the brightness of laptop specially if you are sitting in a day with enough light, you save battery of laptop. Because brightness consume laptop battery a lot.

There is not number of things which you could do to save the battery power. But in short you must put the brightness at lower which will suit your eyes and also will save the power and if you are not listening mute the audio. Generally don’t use high graphics as this uses more power by your processor.

Ravi, I use voiceover which speaks everything that is on the screen which you see. I have learned the keyboard and type all of my words rather than speaking them and having them typed for me. I have been blind since I was born, I don't really know how or why. And I just thought of one more thing in terms of saving battery power. Try not to constantly have your computer on the charger. the more you keep it charging you're actually killing the battery.

The life of battery of laptop depends on its usage. First time when we use the laptop it is better to charge for 3 or 4 hours and then use it on battery so that it gets drained fully. Again recharge fully. Use it on battery. If we do like that the life of batter may be longer. Present day laptops do come with automatic off after full charge of battery. My suggestion will be -- charge it fully using it. After full charge use it on battery only allow it to dry upto 5% and then recharge. The life of battery will be good. Always for replacement buy original batteries though they may be costly. Costliest is the cheapest. Apart from that sleep mode, less brightness these are some more suggestion for extending the life of laptop batteries. Here again luck also plays a role. for me I bought laptop in 2007 August and I had to change the battery by October 2009. the second one - original one -- is good till date. I wish it should last at least for two more years. have a very good day.

Yes ravisivan you are right, we should charge battery to its full to proper utilize it. This also should be done with mobile batteries also to properly use them to their full. You can buy two batteries also so you don't have to face problem while travelling. Happy Mylotting.

Just use only 1 thing that you need. And you can configure the windows power saver mode, to make it even better. You can stop some processes too. As I said just the needed once :)
