Oh my God, I actually did it. On the last couple of days, I gradually transfer my money from my chase bank accounts to my other bank accounts, mostly are online banks, and credit union. I did it because chase start charge me on monthly service fee of $12.00. When I came to talk to the branch service staff, they sounds like that is a justified move for the bank to rip off its customers. I told them, no way, it is my hard earn money, and you simply take it away like this? $12.00 could be my lunch too. There hundred of banks out there that allow me have a free checking account, I don't have to stuck with you and let you continue to take advantage of me. So, impulsively, I told them please close my accounts. I took the remaining balance in cash and walk out there. So, do not let any bank take advantage of you, it is your money to protect.

Wow!! $12.00.. That is a lot. I luckily Bank with a Credit Union so I am safe there, and they do not take $$ out of my account and usually end up covering something even if I am a couple of dollars short. I would think since we the consumers bailed out all these Banks they have gotten too Greedy and something needs to be done. Gone are the Cheap days of Banking.

most of the america bank are going through bad phase and looks like some banks like chase are trying to recover their loss by stealing money out of customers pocket. Keep eye on new bank as well they might start charging just like chase did.

Sometimes, banks are really so clever in terms of agreements and rules they have regarding accounts and savings of their constituents. They always lead us to believe that our money will always be safe and will be earning as much as we hoped for and as good as they promised but actually, it's not always the case. It's good that you have done appropriate actions to your account and in this way, you won't have any financial problems and disagreements in the future.

I had the same problem with Woodforest. My account there was charged a fee of $6.95 and they said it was a new charge and would be monthly. That unexpected charge bounced my account. I had other problems with Woodforest too. I made the mistake of cashing a check there on the day I was under anesthesia. The bank teller gave me too much money and the bank made me pay them plus interest. They said I could not prove it was his fault. I had even told them I had surgery that day.

I'm glad you got it done and overwith now. I would not want to pay that monthly fee either. That adds up to quite a bit of money over a years time.

I hate that. they want to charge you to hold your money. That crazy like you said there are other banks out there who will let you have a free account. There are some banks who also charge a fee when you wothdraw too many times from your savings account. You never know what situation some people are in and they will never try to understand.

A lot of banks are doing that now where they charge a fee. The bank my husband and deal with (US Bank) charges a fee, but we were able to get it waived by opening a savings account and having 25.00 taken out of checking and transfered into our savings. If need be we could take it out, but my husband and I are going to challenge ourselves and see if we can save at least 400.00 by the end of the year. I am sory that your banks fee was 12.00 ours would have been 6.95 a month because we have paperless statements.

That is why I have a credit union. I worked for Security Bank for a bit, and when I left there they charged me $16.00 for processing the paperwork every month, basically sending me a bank statement. That was a long time ago, and $12.00 today doesn't sound like a very high fee at all considering what Security used to charge. But, free is better, and credit union is the way to go for me.
