2011 European Champions League saw Barcelona versus Manchester United at Wembley and what a thrilling and entertaining match it was. Barcelona - ten minutes was all they were tested and pushed. Once they settled down and after 20 minutes it was obvious they were a class above United. The Catalans with Iniesta, Xavi, Pedro, Villa and Messi were unstoppable, with the last 3 scoring a goal each to secure the title for the second time running. Manchester United - tried as hard as they could, but gave the ball away too cheaply and as a result couldn't put Barca under pressure. United had one shot on target and that was the goal for Wayne Rooney. Had it not been for the safe hands of United's custodian Van der Sar who made a string of great saves, the scoreline will indeed be humiliating for the Red Devils. The match was indeed world class in terms of entertaining where it was not short of excitement. So, congratulations to Barcelona! Final score: Barcelona - 3 Manchester - 1 Scorers: Pedro (27') Barcelona Wayne Rooney (34') Manchester United Lionel Messi (54') Barcelona David Villa (69') Barcelona Man of the Match: Xavi - Barcelona

Xavi was quality as always, he receives the ball and finds the perfect pass all the time, even under pressure. His killer pass to Pedro gave him a lot of space to squeeze a shot past Van Der Sar. Messi also had a good game and shown everyone that he can deliver on any stage although i hope he plays in the copa america for Argentina so he can provide his talents on the big stage. Pique is another who played really well kept Hernandez in his back pocket for the whole entire game and shown his physical class in keeping United's attack at bay. Villa also had a good game making sure he took all the chances he had and also had a good game and a brilliant finish. Pedro had one of his best games in a Barcelona shirt and could've had a second but Van Der Sar produced some good saves. Ji Sung Park is an Unsung hero for United highly underrated but he provides soo much for them in these big games and was a fighter all the way through this game. Vidic was solid throughout and made some goal saving saves although him and Evra was at fault for the first goal. Apart from the goal Rooney was not that good in my opinion he kept losing the ball although most of the United team were losing the ball throughout. It was a good final and the better team won.

Bryanx54, I hate to say this but Barcelona is really invincible and the team to beat at full strength where their work ethics have been by far credibly high. Xavi and Iniesta together are really terrific to watch and when you put Messi at the end of the equation - it will be infinity. I am not going to be surprise if Messi does not play for Argentina at the forthcoming Copa America when there is really no one to feed him the ball to work like team Barcelona. Pedro and Villa just proved to the world that they are as sharp as ever and good opportunists of the game. I really have to give them the due credit for starting the turning point of the game and sealing the game consecutively. As for Manchester United, I am wondering if the recent scandal involving Ryan Giggs and Imogen Thomas had affected the team. I simply could not believe that Sir Alex would field Giggs for the entire game. I believe the scandal did affect the team especially when there are others in the team who are known to be very heavy party goers and having a string of women outside their marriage. Since you are from UK, what's the latest news so far?

Currently watching Sir Alex's son's team Peterborough head into the Championship as it looks they are two up to play off rivals Huddersfield. Back to the topic, Guardiola has signed a new contract as Barcelona boss and did a post match interview in Spain hailing his Barcelona key players for the victory. Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted in his interview that Barcelona gave them a hinding, and he hopes his team can bounce back from it. Nani has said that United should be proud despite a defeat and Mascherano Dedicated his victory to Liverpool and Liverpool fans.

Barcelona played a hell of a match on the first half and the first part of the second half. I think they are indeed the dream team at the moment. The best that we had seen so far.

iwrite, Along with the millions, I just have to agree with you that the match is one of the best we've ever seen. But, I just cannot help wondering if the match could be even more close if Ryan Giggs had not been exposed in the latest celebrity scandal. I believe there will be a lot who will disagree with me but I just beg otherwise when such scandals had been known to devastate people in and around. What do you think?

For starters it was a good match for the Champions League final. All the goals were very good and enjoyable to watch. Barcelona was dominant as is to be expected with their ball possession habit. But yes it was a one team competition after around 10 minutes as you have pointed out. Man U players seemed out of it and even Wayne Rooney who is usually bustling with energy seemed to be strangely out of his depths at this level. I think the current Barca team is playing in a different plane altogether with all other teams trying to play catch up with them. Cheers! Ram

I will not label this as a thrilling and exciting final. It is basically one way traffic. One team, Barca, playing the beautiful game and the other, Man Utd, trying to catch up. I remember people condemning and mocking Arsenal when they lost at Nou Camp. They highlighted the number of shots that they had and the possession. Now, they have the champions of England and yet there is not much difference in the match stats and end result. So for those who slated Arsenal then, especially the Man Utd fans, chew on it.

rising3, All I have to say that Barcelona has never failed to rise up to the occasion when it matters most. So, I was not surprised at all when they did a neat work with Manchester United at the finals of the European Champions League. I do not like whatever had happened with Manchester United especially with the recent scandal on their most celebrated and revered (not sure now) player - Ryan Giggs. His expose could not have come at a better time and I could see that it is really affecting the whole team. The team may want to deny it in the media and press but these expose don't just merely expose - they devastate people and the people around them. Just hope that they (celebrities) will start getting their act together and sponsors will be more particular with the moral clause in their contracts.

After several condemnations of diving while playing against Madrid in clasico and some controversies, from Mou sued Barca to UEFA and he will bring the case to Court of Arbitration of Sports( CAS), finally Barca showed their real class. They were stuck in the first 15 minutes before they dominated the game again. Messi-Villa-Pedro are more than just awesome. Xavi n Iniesta are the best (who will replace them in case they retire?it seems Barca depends on them a lot). MU played well, and they are very gentlemen by saying Barca is the best team.

Yes it was a good performance by Barcelona. I thought that Manchester United probably did as well as any other team could have done against Barcelona.
