Do you think they should be able to wear what they want, or have dress codes?

I think a dress code eliminates many potential problems and there are no vaguenesses nor ambiguities. I prefer a dress code for elementary through high schools.

I agree, but I think girls should beable to wear pants or skirts not just skirts it should be up to the child, cause it should be up to the child, on that part anyway.

I think dress codes are smart. short shorts, halter tops, and the likes should not be allowed at school. So, dress codes are good. I don't agree with uniforms though unless it is a private school. There are so many public schools now going to uniforms. I think a dress code is enough. Kids are individuals and clothes express them. So as long as the clothing is not inappropriate I think they should be able to wear it. My kids love to wear fashionable clothes like Raven, bratz, or the my scene girls. I couldn't imagine closing off that part of their personality and making them wear a plaid skirt, white top and blue blazer 5 days a week.

My daughter's school has a dress code (involving skimpy clothing, writing on clothes and gang colors, etc). They aren't very strict about it, if you ask me. I always see kids at the bus stop breaking the rules. Last year I saw a girl waiting for the bus (she was in 6th grade I think) wearing really short shorts, a long sleeve shirt and high heeled sandals (no backs or toes on the sandals). The shorts, sandals and the fact that she had on no socks all broke the dress code. She was also standing out there with no coat and it was about 40 degrees out that morning. Somehow I don't think her parents were around in the morning. Another girl wears flip flops to school when it is warm, again that is against the rules. My daughter threw a fit because I wouldn't let her wear tank tops at the beginning of the school year. They are against the rules but the other girls in her class were wearing them so she wanted to. Same with sandals. They are against the rules but the other girls wear them. I make sure my daughter adheres to the dress code. It is hard when it is warm and she wants to wear shorts and skirts. They are supposed to be only so far above the knee but my daughter is very skinny with long legs. The clothes that fit in the waist are very short on her. I have had to resort to capris style pants in a smaller size and long skirts in a smaller size (that don't look as long since they are small).

I think dress codes, like not being able to wear revealing or inappropriate clothes is okay. That's what my school had, and I turned out okay. It's the way that you express your individuality and your personality. I mean, yeah, it causes cliques, but that's how you know if you're going to get along with a person or not. And if you can get past the boundary of what you're wearing, then that's when you know you're truly friends! I was the punk in school, and I hung out with the punkers, but I still had friends in every different clique. The uniform thing, is not okay unless if you go to private school. My sister went to a public school where they had to wear the same shirt, and unfortunately, they had to buy their own, and the shirts were $15 each. Now look at this, if you had the money, you could buy a shirt for every day of the week, but if you weren't, you'd either be wearing the same shirt everyday, or every two days and doing a LOT of laundry. And if you don't have a washing machine and you need to go to the laundromat, that's a lot of money, not including the gas to drive, and the time it's taking away from your studies.

I was in a high-school with a dress code. It was totally useless.

i think they should...with some limitations on vulger outfits, like no exsesive clevage and butt cheeks...but kids need to express themselves. i was an fighter for this in school. we never wanted a dress code, well more uniforms, those were normally saved for privte school kids.

In favor of it, would eliminate the problem of more unfortunate kids that cant afford label name clothes. They wouldnt feel like "poor" or be judge as to the way they can afford to dress.

I prefer students should wear uniform from elementary to highschools both private and public schools. But in college since we don't have uniform so we wear what we want I prefer to wear a uniform, because it's so neat and other may recognize you as a student. But in public schools on college it's ok to wear what they want or there must be a day that they dont wear a uniform

I think they should be allowed to wear whatever they want within reason. Skirts that should hit the knee and shirts that don't show belly cleveage. I think that every person, young or old, has a right to express themelves by what they wear.

I think they are great in showing kids the importance of proper dress, I wore one when I was in school and I loved it, it taught me how good it feels to look my best and have people treat me better because of it and it is doing the same thing for my sons as well.
