The never-ending discussion...

United States
June 1, 2011 5:14pm CST
A group of us got on this subject through another discussion--under current MyLot rules, a 'never-ending story' thread would not be permissible, so I started thinking how we (the participants) COULD make this work! Please respond here with your suggestion(s) on how we can make this work. There are no wrong answers, and feel free to respond to anyone else's ideas--let's make this a truly interactive discussion! Looking forward to everyone's suggestions!

I am involved in lengthy discussions on a daily basis, more then once a day actually. What occurs is that a member places your response and several others comment in the same box. Many of us go from box to box and further them there and it can go on forever. There is no limit as to how many of these you can do, so as long as the comments and responses are related to the topic. At times it does go off topic a bit but truly if anyone read them there is quite of learning information in them. In order for it to be furthered, it is always advisable that the discussion starter also comment, especially if some members leave questions and or room to come back with something. My suggestion is that if anyone is involved in lengthy discussions is to leave the tab open and refresh it from time to time so that they come immediately apply their comment, because the longer it sits the less interest there is. How that? lol

It would definitely have to be something all are interested in and will have the time to take part in it. I am usually part of several a day and must admit it is not usually planned out to be a furthering it naturally happens. Though today I will be stepping out in a bit. I play softball for a charity and have a double game today.

To have a never-ending discussion, we must have something to discuss right? So here we must discuss the possibilty of having a never-ending story. A story about what? How could we discuss a story if it is never ending and has no finale? Surely we could discuss it once it was over and state our opinions on whether it ended correctly or whether we would have done such and such a thing to have made it end differently - but I don't see how we can discuss it before it ends Well I did my best

I am sure I understand never ending stories, as I interpret it as lengthy discussions. Though you and I have been part of so many, at some point it does come to an end.

A never-ending story starts with 'once upon a time' but never gets to the 'they all lived happily ever after' part surely?

hi scorpio but then it would just turn into a game of a neverending story with out an end how can you discuss the story. the rule about games of any sort is really very strict here. I under stand where you are coming from but it has to have an ending so we can have a discussion about it and the discussion then can be never ending not the story but the discussion. lol hope I am makimg sense. lol

Game types are indeed not allowed but this particular discussion (if it goes correctly) is not a game because it is not a never-ending story but a discussion discussing how to make never-ending discussion [pheeeeeewwwww]

So was I way off above? I was geared towards furthering discussions but it seem it is about a story? As Mrs. Hatley says games type are not allowed, still not sure.

How about starting a thread for everyone to share their experience of their first post in myLot. Every member (old members as well as new members) if they contribute will keep it running. The problem is how to make sure they get to see the topic for dicussion. It must have a catchy title and some promoting required, I think.

Someone already started one with the same subject in the last month, or else I'd consider it myself. It's hard to think of new topics all the time--the search function is a bit difficult to use easily.

In my opinion there should be a time limit for every discussion. Time limit means a day or two after which the discussion will expire and no more response will be entertained. In this way discussions could be ended up it wont happen that anytime the discussion get alive i know mine discussion which old more than 8~9 days got alive when some one responded on it though i got the solution for my problem. I think this is the only way we could maintain what MYLOT wants otherwise MYLOT cannot maintain it.

But let me ask you--suppose that you DON'T get an answer that you can use in two days--are you willing to go on without an answe to your problem? Not everyone is on every day, or will find your discussion in a day or too. Sometimes I've ended a discussion and then I get the most amazing response that I'm thinking, Geez! Why didn't I wait??? That's why I think that there really shouldnt be a permanent end to a discussion--a continual updating of comments can keep it fresh!

Hi scorpiobabes it was just an example we can fix it for any time period its not that we have to fix 2~3 days it can be 15 days & i think 15 days are enough to get sufficient responses. Secondly when it is known to everyone that discussions are for limited time he will try to log in for time in MYLOT to give more responses i think.

What about "why do dogs hate it when you blow on their face, when they enjoy hanging out their heads outside the window when im driving my car?" . I see many questions like this and i see nothing scientific, just plain guesses. Maybe this wont work either because not everybody have dogs... well at least most of us do.

MyLot is not for questions and answers! We are not on Yahoo here Here we should create topics for discussion and then DISCUSS them, then we will see the results that we are hoping for

Hi there, I came back to the discussion to see if anyone commented something for me and noticed here that you were asking if mysdianait was admin. Gee one of the guidelines you must have missed. See in the guidelines it clearly explains that admins have the blue admin logo next to their user name and ratings and clearly you can see that mysdianait does NOT. Please refer here so you can get familiar as to who is admin and or not. http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq1.aspx I will copy paste here so you can read it as well "I got a message from someone claiming to be a myLot representative. How do I know if they are one? myLot administrators will have a logo by their names like this: myLot admin" Please visit the link because you can see exactly the blue logo this way no one will tell you otherwise and or pretend to be one. mysdianait has been here for so long and is very helpful to many members.
