I'm done with her!

Who, her? The Young Botanist... While I say I'm done, that doesn't mean I finished it. There's still a couple inches at the bottom, but I've done all I'm going to. I really don't like the outcome -- too vague and the colors just don't seem right. She's sitting among wildflowers growing at the side of a lake... do you see any green? can you even see the lake? would you know she has a bouquet of flowers in her lap if I didn't tell you?

First - nice job! Wow (I often get 3/4's done on a cross stitch project and stop...I have abandonment issues I think) What were you going to do with her when you finished wall mount? pillow? I think she turned out lovely, if perhaps not what you expected. Could it be you are your own worst critic? Perhaps if you put her aside for a time and look at her down the road you will like her better?

The lake actually shows up better in this shot than in real.

You did this. I wouldn't know where to start. It's brilliant! My only comment is did you have to lie on your side to stitch it?

Did stitching it make you cross? Is that why it's called cross stich?

Are you planning on framing her or using her as a cushion cover or something? I agree that it's not the most distinct design, but it's got a nice overall look. And I bet it looks better in real life than the photo shows.

I don't think she'd make a very good cushion.

You do such lovely work!!! Personally, I wouldn't put that much work in to something & then not finish it!!! I know from personal experience that we, the crossstitchers, are our own worst enemy!! I did one that took me 2 years to complete. I had made ONE tiny mistake & to this day EVERYTIME I look at it that is ALL I see!!! Others still tell me how beautiful it is & even a friend who can find a mistake in less than 5 seconds has NOT found the mistake in the last 10 years even though I've challenged her to find my mistake. Not seeing yours in realtime, it is hard for me to judge the beauty. Yes, I see the flowers in her lap, but they look like a bowl of strawberries to me. Maybe that's because I prefer strawberries to flowers!!! Looking at it sideways, the lake doesn't look like a lake. I have been known to buy colors I prefer more than what the pattern calls for & go over areas I don't care for with something I prefer. Sometimes in going over a particular area, it gives it a raised area giving it a 3D effect & also highlighting the area I consider more important!!! Also, the contrast of their colors vs my colors gives a unique color that NOBODY can duplicate, so I have a definite "one-of-a-kind" piece. I try to NOT do that very often, but it has been done before!!!! Like somebody else here suggested, you just might want to put it away for awhile to work on something you like better & then when you come back to it, you might be able to see it in a different light!!! I just know that I would NOT stop at this close to completion!!!!

Well, I did augment the flowers in her lap to make them more recognizable. I considered redoing the lake but this pattern is full of "confetti" and blends I decided to just be done with it.

Congrats Barb on a job well done! People that do not cross stitch cannot even begin to imagine how many hours are in this beautiful piece. yes I do see the lake and the flowers in her lap. Usually a piece won't look as good close up. Maybe hang it up on a wall with a piece of tape and stand back to get a better perspective. May I enquire who made the pattern? some of the designers do a more delicate pattern to have the person viewing the piece to spend more time viewing the design when finished. Other patterns are quite bold. That is deffinate in the piece I have put on discussion here April Birthstone by Mystic Stitch. My best friend (Gayle) finished a piece from Golden Kite entitled "The Accolade" it took her 3 years to finish it. It is now matted and framed over her bed. It is approx 3 1/2 ft long by 2 1/2ft wide. She is now working on a piece entitled "Adam's Creation" and it is from Mystic Stitch. I have 3 WIP pieces and after I finish the April birthstone which is for my granddaughter for Christmas, I will turn my attention to my other Mystic Stitch piece "Rocky Mountain Kingdom" this is being done on 22ct 1 thread over 1. Yea I am a glutton for punishment LOL Anyway enjoy she is a very delicate beautiful piece. The more I look at her the more she looks like a Lanarte piece? is she a gift? And last question is What do you plan on working on next?

So many questions! The pattern is from Scarlet Quince (they only do art patterns) from a painting by Paul Peel. The finished piece is just over a foot wide and almost 15" long. The even weave I used works out to something like 19.5ct. I was going to frame it but not so sure now what I'll do with it. I'm not sure what will be my next big piece but I'm working on two simpler ones that are almost done and just started Lady --a mini (5"x7") that Art of Stitching has available for free download. (They also do art pieces.)

SQ also has a pattern for The Accolade... 300 x 500 stitches ¦ 121 colors (DMC floss) ¦ About 17" x 28" or 42 x 71 cm (on 18-count) It'd be interesting to compare the two side by each.

Well aren't we our own worst critics when it comes to things we have made? I know back when I used to do a lot of crossstitch it seemed I was never satisfied, and now that I do a lot of Croceting it is the same way. Personally I think there should be an easier way to be Happy with our work we do, but then especially me since I also sell the items, I would keep a lot more of the stuff I do as well.

Yes, took a couple years... probably longer than it should have because I wasn't happy with it.

I think she looks pretty good and you are agonizing over her... stick her in a frame and give her as a gift to someone - they'll never know the difference and you will both be happy!
