The Sweet Scent of Sampaguitas...

Our national flower is a simple five petal and immaculately white sampaguita. The scent of this little flower is so sweet that we sew the buds in leis and wear it on occasions, like graduation. In the old shrines, sampaguita vendors sell garlands of these white flowers for offerings. That is why the sanctuaries always smell good. The sampaguitas are in full bloom this time of the year. And everyday, I harvest the little flowers from my garden, put them in bowls, and place them in the altars. That is why my home is so sweet smelling now. By the way, I think our sampaguita is a variation of jasmine.

Hiya eileen, Sampaguita is a very beautiful Flower it is so white and pretty. We have some kind of blossom outside at the moment and it smells like Azahar it´s really beautiful but it only lasts a short time. Seems is was imported to your Country in the 17th Century and it is related by the look of it to Jasmin. That´s the information I have picked up sorry no time to look for more things now. Must smell really nice if they use it that much. It´s also used in various Cosmetics and Oils for it´s wonderful fragrance. It varies in the amount of Petals and shape sometimes too. Very nice thanks for that one.xxx PS:You can also make Tea out of it?

Hiya BHC, Jasmin Tea is a great drink. I can remember having this first Jasmin Tea after a very long Journey down South I was about to drop with heat exhaustion and lack of food. I drank a huge cup of this Jasmin Tea infused very well and it livened me up so much I was able to find a Hotel to put my Head down for the Night. Was a very nice cup of Tea have never seen any or been able to get any since.

I'm not sure if we have such flowers here because it's a national flower in philippines. Over in singapore, we are using Orchids because it's our national flower. After reading on, i'm sure we don't have those little flowers here, for we are using jasmine flowers. My parents are always buying them for prayer purposes. It really smells great.

I absolutely love the smell of fresh flowers and that is one of the reasons that I've decided to start a garden of my own outside our house. I love the smell and the look of flowers. Our ultimate goal is to cover our entire front yard with gardens because there are so many different looks to them. Besides that, I do know that I have seasonal allergies, but I also know that I love looking at the beauty that nature is able to create.

Jasmine - Sweet smelling jasmmine.
You may be right as jasmines too smell sweet. They are used also at weddings where the bride wears them. There is heavy demand for these flowers and those who grow these flowers earn enough and more to take care of their financial needs. Many young girls and women also wear these flower in their hair. The buds are woven together.

Sounds like a night blooming jasmine. I had one of those once. I love this time of year. I have a Catalpa tree blooming and some honeysuckle and the air outdoors is wonderful and sweet.

Jasmines worn in southern India (rare occassions) - Jasmine
Hi eileenleyva, could we see some pictures of this flower, and the lies, and how you all wear them. I could add one to show you how jasmines are worn out here. :)

It's a healthy substitute for air freshener and reed diffusers to scent your room or your home... It's been marketed and sold in various Catholic Churches in our country and it does make the sanctuaries smell good. Thanks to that cute and sweet smelling flower...

Yes I love the sweet scent of Sampaguita, did you know that it's not only our National flower but it's also one of the 3 National flowers of Indonesia? I love the scent better than air freshener, we use to have a lot in the garden but I do not see them now, that garland or lei they sell in churches or what we hang during graduation is sampaguita flowers sewn with ilang-ilang flowers ( we use to have a large tree but it's gone now), the combination scent is what most of us are familiar with

The last time I ever saw a sampaguita was when I rode a cab to work and I think it was quite a long time now, and I got to see a bunch of wreaths of the flower near the mirror. It totally caught my attention since I usually see bubble head toys, rosaries and commercial air fresheners. Honestly, I haven't seen a sampaguita plant or something like that. I don't even know how to plant them. I love the smell of flowers in the morning especially at a cab. Unfortunately, there's not much sampaguita vendors anymore.
