With all of the arguing and fighting between the parties, it is often easy to overlook the leaders who are actually doing a good job for the people. Please take a moment and brag about someone you know who really is a good servant of the public - - I will try to include them in a new segment in my blog tht honors people who 'do it right'. Thanks - - now go ahead and brag...

Herb Richardson, one of my state representatives. I can walk in to the produce department of Shaws on any given day and find him hard at work, and even then, he is never too busy to talk to me about an issue. His love for our home town and county and his unwavering service to the people there is above and beyond the call of duty. Because of New Hampshire's unique legislative structure, he does all this for almost no pay. He probably makes more in one day at his regular job than he does all year in the legislature, yet works just as hard there as he does his regular job. Herb....thank you. You represent the north country with great honor.

I'm sure you guys get a much different breed of politician in New Hampshire with a pay rate that can barely be called nominal. Those people are basically volunteers so you know that they genuinely care and aren't there for money and power as in many other states.

I really can't understand why people aren't trying to revert to citizen legislature in their states. It really is the best way to weed out the leaches.

Given all the things the President deals with I half to say President Obama is a good public servant.

I've been pleased with Chris Christie here in New Jersey. He's had the guts to make cuts where needed and refused to continue creating new millionaire's taxes to balance the budget. He also did a good job of explaining to the public that the hundreds, yes I mean HUNDREDS of new taxes created under his predecessor caused $75 billion in wealth to leave the state meaning the taxes are higher, but less people are paying them. He signed legislation requiring government workers to pay a minimum of 2% of their salary towards their health insurance since many government employees, myself included, were getting 100% free health insurance which, while great for the employees, was too expensive and unsustainable in this economy. Not everything he's done has been popular, but he's had the guts to do what's necessary to balance the budget after inheriting a $10 billion plus budget deficit.
