Would your mother in law take care of you like mine did?

Last Saturday evening, my husband and I went down to the swimming pool. After floating in the cool water for awhile, I decided to visit with some friends who were also at the pool. I was sitting on the little ledge that goes around the edge of the 5-8 foot section of the pool. After awhile, Mike asked me if I was ready to go inside and get ready for bed as we had a big Sunday ahead of us with church and everything that goes with it. I said yes, and started to get out of the pool. Instead of getting down and swimming over to the steps or the ladder, I decided to turn around and get out from the ledge. I got up on my knees, but as I started to put my foot up under me the damaged nerves in my back caught and my leg didn't work. I started to fall back. Instead of just letting the water catch me, I reached up and grabbed the railing. In doing so, I wrenched my back. By Monday, I couldn't walk faster than a turtle. Mike took me to the nurse practitioner. I love Barbara, she is very caring and compassionate and pays attention to what I tell her. Never does she rush to get to the next patient, but rather spends the time she feels I need every time. At any rate, she told me that I'd done "A number" on my back this time. She said I should have gone ahead and let myself fall and hit the water. She gave me three new prescriptions and a shot of Toradol. That was a sight to behold because as usual, it made me quite loopy! Mike had to go to work, so he brought me home. But after watching me try and walk into the house, he changed his mind. Instead he had me gather my things and he took me to my mother in law's house for the day. They were getting quite a kick out of my reaction to the medication. My three year old great nephew kept saying "Auntie Paula is DRUNK" and he'd giggle uncontrollably. I slept most of the day. Mike's mom took such good care of me. She fixed me some lunch, went to the pharmacy and picked up my prescriptions, and while she was there bought me a bag of the soft peppermint candies that I like so much. Liam, my nephew apparantly watched over me while I slept. Mom said he kept putting his fingers to his lips and telling his mom and little brother "shhhh...Auntie Paula is sleeping because her back got hurted and then they shot her in the hiney" I thought it was so cute. Do you have people who take care of you when you're sick or hurt?

I understand your situation well, so please don't hate me when I tell you I'm laughing all over again reading this. You definitely have my sympathy. I went around for three days once walking like the Hunchback of Notre Dame. I got really familiar at looking at my feet.

Go ahead and laugh, everyone else did! LOL Only someone with back problems can fully understand someone else with back problems! I'm just thankful to be off the steroids. My friend Lisa's daughter has to be on them quite often for her MS. She calls them "The Devil's Medicine" because of all the side effects. It seems kind of funny that a medication that is supposed to be good for you, has such horrible side effects!

Oh my word, I know. When I was on steroids I gained so much weight.
