Have you ever heard about Neymar?

Brazil

I was wondering if Neymar have a simliar popularity around the world as he have in Brazil. He is a player of Santos team and after the world cup he became titular of Brazil's team. A lot of sports jornalists compare him to Messi and says that he will win the best player title very soon. Also he is the major hope for the next world cup. So, do you already have heard about him? If yes, what you think?

Yes, I have heard of him, but I don't like his style. He is very focused on doing spectacle and humiliating his opponent than being a team player. I think he will be the same as Robinho who was focused more on having fun than evolving and trying to play for success more than for spectacle.

I think Robinho changed a lot during the years, he's not trying to do much spectacle as he used to do, maybe because it wasn't working. When he was younger, sports jornalists from Brazil used to say the same thing that they are saying about Neymar now, but Robinho never got close to win the best player title. Yes, he have a career of sucess (a lot of good teams wants him and most of the times he's titular of Brazil's team), but I think that everyone expected more from him. I don't know why he can't play good on Europe as he used to play on Santos team, last year he came back to Santos to play only a few months and he played good as the old times.

The main difference between South American football and European one is that here, in Europe we prefer the result instead of the spectacle. Of course, we like to see nice football as well, but only if it is combined with results. I personally like a nice pass more than a player who tries to humiliate his opponent. Let's take Messi for instance: he dribbles the same way, he doesn't make tricks, he is playing useful. Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar are making different type of "tricks", which are spectacular, but maybe are not that useful as Messi's dribbling. And players like Xavi and Iniesta who pass very good are more valuable for a team than a player who likes to keep the ball and do tricks. I hope it is clear what I am trying to explain.

Oh yes, I understand your point. Actually, I think the same thing about the difference between Brazil's and European football. That's the worry that all jornalists have if Neymar goes to an european team. On the beggining of the year, Chelsea offered a good contract to him, but he didn't accepted. Everyone said that was a good choice made by him, because he style of play would never worked on Chelsea. I don't know if nowadays everyone here in South America thinks the same, but, I prefer a spectacular football than win playing a bad football. I know that on Brazil everyone hated the Brazil's team on the last World Cup, because they didn't had a good result and they played an awful football. I'm sure that if they had played a good football (with Neymar and Ganso) during the World Cup, everyone would be more comprehensive with the team after the defeat against Netherleands. Just see the Brazil's team on the 82 World Cup, they didn't won the title, but they are still more remembered than the 94 team.

Yes, I have heard about Neymar. More or less his name crops up during the transfer window. But I have not seen enough of the Brazilian to really comment on how good a player he is. If he is being compared with Messi then he must be some player. I am just hoping to catch him play sometime soon. Cheers! Ram

On the beggining of his carrer he was also compared to Pele, but, of course, that was so exagerated, because never a player will be good as Pele. There are have been rumores that Neymar would go to Chelsea, Barcelona or Milan. I hope this not happen, he's to young and I think he should still stay on Brazil for a couple of years. On July, it will have America Cup, it's going to be a good chance to look a match between Neymar and Messi.

Yes i've heard of Neymar since he was 17 i believe, he's been a sensation in Brazil and played really well against Scotland if he keeps to develop then Brazil have a very good player to go into the World cup 2014 with. As Host Nations they are favorites so Neymar will have to deal with that pressure when the times comes and we will see if he really is the next Brazilian Ronaldo and so on.

Neymar is touted as the next great thing to come from Brazil. Many european clubs are keeping an eye on him. I think it is premature to compare him with Messi. The latter had been performing at the highest level consistently while the former fall in and out of the news. Most of the time when he did appear on the news is when there is a rumour that so and so is keen to sign him. Sadly, unless the Brazilian join a top european club, he will still be regards as the possible next big thing.

That's the bad thing. Unless he joins an european club, he never would be considered one of the best players in the world currently playing (which, in my opinion, he definetly is). That's why all players wants to go to Europe. But I still think that he should stay in Santos for a few years, he's not mature enough for handle the pression that he's going to have on Europe.

The name is sometimes confused with Nilmar. Well, at least it confused me :D Though, have never seen both playing. But indeed, Neymar was one of the name highly speaking between big clubs at Europe. Just wondering, why he wasn't taken in Copa America squad. Maybe he doesn't fit in Mano Menezes' tactic? Don't know...

He is on the Brazil's squad for Copa America, actually he's the big hope to Brazil's win this title along with Paulo Henrique Ganso, another young player that is being disputed by big european teams. I think it's going to be unmissable the match between Brazil and Argentina, it's going to be the first real battle among Neymar and Messi.

Yes,I heard about Neymar and I know he's a rising star;I saw him recently in the friendly match between Brazil and Romania and I think he has the skills and the potential to become one of the biggest players in history.I'm sure that by 2014 he will become a more mature player and he might even become as good as Messi at the 2014 World Cup.I'm very curious to see what he will do in the following years.
