How secret is a secret diary?

From the time i learned how to write i have been keeping a diary. I thought that diaries were really something that i could openly tell every secrets i have since people won't bother to read them. My diary then had a lock and key but it can be opened by any sharp objects. One time my sister saw that and read everything. I was so mad and embarrassed because she found out who my secret crush was and every details of how i felt. So, i took that diary and burned it. She felt horrible and felt sorry that i burned my diary and she told me she loved reading it because it was like a novel. She was impressed by how vivid and clear i wrote my diary. From then on, i still kept a diary without a lock and key but i just didn't left it anywhere lying around. And nobody knew it was a diary because it was just an ordinary looking notebook. If it was a real looking diary, i knew somebody would be interested in peeing through them. Then i just stopped writing and lost all those diaries. Now i have a new diary but this time it's an ipad application with a code to open it. It's in pink and the lock is heart shaped and very girly looking diary. But now i am wondering if the secret diary is really secret? How long can the secrets be kept in the diary until it's discovered? So now i just don't write detailed secrets in my diary anymore because i don't want to feel embarrassed when somebody would find it someday. I just write down the memories, good and bad, but not so secret anymore.

hi, yes a diary is nothing but it is our personal ,its just as the another person of us or a copy of us written in the book.Others do have this habit or sometimes we will also be in such temptation to read unless we are very much particular about some rules which are to be followed. Its good you had burned it,i do the same.I donot want anyone reading about me.I just burned it because i felt bad that someone peeped into my personal feelings.Got angry on myself for not keeping it in a safe place and got angry on the person who read and could not do anything because by then everything was finished. Its better we do not share our personal secrets with anyone ,because as they know about us keenly we do not feel that much flexible while dealing with that person A diary is something that we want to share our hard and sweet times of life.Everything we write in the book.As we can not keep everything in us we like to tell someone .Its when we tell our sorrows to any person we feel better however as such a trust ful person we do not get all time in our life then we make the diary to be our friend to share . It is good to keep our personal secrets with us only ., or else tell to god.As God does only good to us.However he said that every human being is having god in himself or herself. Those who have godly qualities such persons we can trust. Its not that hard to get such a honest and trust full person .It is we who have to decide to keep the trust and honesty with people who are trustworthy.

Slate and slatepencil - A slate which can be used to be written on both sides and the pencil used is of different type not that which finishes after some time.
How much we take care of keeping a lock and key it would be much more attrated to wards itself and make the thief come inside. If you leave it carelessly then also it would be in trouble. If its not written then you may feel unhappy for keeping everything in ur self.So best thing is write it and erase it.Take a slate , write on it and erase it.

I've never had a REAL diary as in my home I have NO privacy at all...but recently I've started writing my feelings on penzu.com before bedtime. I have in privacy so I think nobody can read but even if somebody can I write unanimous with no names so nobody would know who I am anyways..

It sounds like it's similar to experience project. It's an online sharing of problems and people usually use a code name.

hi, diary is great because you can read the past you had in your life, its written what happened to you but i think its also not so good all the times because wha t if that diary will lost and read by the other people, they can read and get the information you have so for me i think its better to do not create a diary instead let us use our minds and memory of it,memories will never gone to our heart and mind.

I can't remember exactly at what age I had a diary. I used to have one. The first that I had was just written in plain English and my brother actually read it. I think I was barely 13 at that time. I really got so mad at my brother for reading my diary. I even kept it and he found it. It's just that at that time, he knew that I love to write and that I had a diary. I guess he became curious about it and when he found it, he even teased me. So when I got mad at him, I tore the pages of my diary and threw it. I really was so angry at that time. Then when I had my second diary, probably at the age of 14, I had codes that only I know. It was difficult but then I was able to keep it for a while. I'm not sure where it is now. That was in high school. But now, I don't have any diary anymore although I would want to try o keep a journal someday when I wouldn't be too busy with work.

I could have just imagined the anger that was boiling inside of you when your brother read it. I felt the same when my sister read mine.

I think your secrets are safe on your iPad, at least. You have to have a code to open it, so unless you give it to them, no one can read it, right? I have a diary also, but I don't write in it too often.. mine is more of a private blog.. it's not open for anyone to view.

I used to write diary from my childhood days itself. At first I used to write them to enrich my English language but by growing up I considers it as an serious thing. I used to write every thing in my diary without missing anything so the book turns into a secret book. I used to keep my diary inside my cupboard and used to lock them with a key. So nobody can take it.

Hello Toni. I think curiosity is one of the most common feature of human beings (and cats) and that's why your sister read it. But i think a classic jurnal would be more private then one on a computer (especially one connected to the internet that might be "broken into" by a hacker).

My secret diary application is not connected to the internet. Nobody will be able to see that online. The only thing a hacker can get a hold of it is if they get a hold of my ipad. I bought that application in apple store and it's not connected to them once it is bought. It's just like microsoft word where microsoft has no access to whatever you write in your word program. So, it's totally safe from hackers.

I have kept a diary right from being a young child, and basically write in it as though it were a friend and that there was nothing that I wouldn't write in it. I never kept it locked, i just trusted my family not to read it, as I had asked them not to. However my Mum found something that I had written about something that a friend had done to me when I was fourteen, and she was so angry that she went round to that friend's house and yelled at her, which was incredibly embarrassing. However, I had completely underestimated how unfair my friend's actions towards me were, so I am thankful to my Mum for going to her like she did, as I would never have done it myself.

I think secrets can be kept secret for as long as you need them to be. It's all dependent on the situation. I've kept diaries that no one has found. I see diaries as a way to let out your inner emotions and feelings and secrets, ones that you can tell no one else. It's like having someone to tell things to without ever having to be embarrassed. Personally, it makes things a little easier for me. It's nice being able to let things out sometimes. I think you should continue to let out your secrets. Living a life with secrets bottled up makes things unnecessarily difficult sometimes. Let out everything, and don't worry about being embarrassed. Live life to the fullest. I'm sure no one will be able to get in if you have a code, and if you hide them properly, some secrets will never be found.

I also had a diary on my low-end phone with a code in it... Diaries will remain secret if you keep them in secret and nobody knows that you even have a diary.. By what you said, i could say you are a good writer. Just keep writing and keep them lock and if your sister is interested in them, your secrets will no more be called secret..

MY sister is no longer interested since we don't live together anymore since i'm married. So my secret diary is safe with her. BEsides she's not into electronics so there's no way she would be able to open my secret diary code or even my ipad.

I used to have a diary when my husband and i were newly married. I keep it under our bed's mattress. In it are the heartaches and joys of being married. But i came to a point of realization that rereading my diary opens in me some heartaches that were already gone. It's as if a wound is again made fresh. Hence, i burned that diary so i could forget those bad memories. Lately, i have been keeping a journal of events in my life. Though, they are of happy thoughts only.

Once i write in my diary, i don't open it anymore. I don't usually write in details the bad and sad memories. I couldn't bear the pain of jotting it down and recalling each details with every words i write.

I do keep journals. I mean I love writing my friend. That's why I got a blog too. But I haven't written anything recently. I have a sort of diary back in high school and all my angst and depression was written there. My sister did read it and she was frustrated to have read it. Because she found out, I wasn't writing anything about my love life. LOL. She was hoping, she'd discover who I'm courting or whatever, but didn't find any hint or clue in there. Up to now I still write on my notebook some of the things that transpired. There was once in my college life that I said I have to read a detailed story of my life, and someday, people would be interested to know how I lived. LOL. Too ambitious of me. Secrets really don't last forever. You can keep it for a while, for a lifetime, but not forever, whether written or not. See ya around my friend. I miss our chat. I have been so busy. But i'll still check mylot out every now and then. God bless :) Take care.

I do keep confidential material about my personal life and office job on two separate diary. However, I make sure they are written in such a language that no one can easily read and understand. I use special short hand which is not easy to read and I also use some slangish language. However, I also keep my personal secrets much more recently in my computer. I restrict access to it by using a computer password. We are living in a world in which people can easily stumble on our secret. I use to live my confidential information on facebook. But facebook became a website in which a lot of people went in there to abuse the site and steal people information. So I stop using facebook to keep my diary.

I used facebook before as well and as you've mentioned it has been abused, thus i'm no longer using it. It's good that you're using a secret language. I usually write my diary in English. I have never written a diary in my own native language as i find it difficult to write and very tiresome as well.

I have often started a diary. But have soon got bored as I end up censoring what I am writing in case it is found and read. I suffer with depression and often things I am feeling about people are not how I generally feel. It is just in that moment. So I worry that if found people will get the wrong idea and be upset or offended. I love your use of a diary, it's more a memory book and I'm sure it will make lovely reading later on in life. And there is no worry that your secret thoughts will be read by someone else.

I've been keeping a diary eversince I was 14 up today. Writing has always been my source of relief and I consider them to be my sanctuaries. When certain events in my life prove to be such a burden, I write them down, sealing every emotion beneath words. There were a few times that my parents were able to get a hold of my first diary and they thought that it's ridiculous to be keeping my thoughts from them. I thought that's just me trying to keep something and own it because back then, there's really not much a fourteen year-old can do under her parents' roof but live each day as stress free as possible.

Talking about privacy! I think parents should respect their children's privacy even if they are just minors. There are some things that we keep to ourselves. AS long as they are not dangerous then i think our privacy should be respected.
