Rahul Dravid .. The Great Wall of India

Dear All, A modest man debuted in 1996. He missed his century by five runs in his first test against England. Shortly he was named Mr. Dependable. The players around him managed to take all the lime light for their flamboyance. He was rarely held high for his extravagant stroke play, because he did not have their flair. But what he had was determination, unbelievable concentration, calmness, and most importantly, the best technique in World Cricket. Now, fifteen years down the line, that man has scored over 12,000 runs in test matches at an average of 52. and over 10,000 runs in one- dayers. He also holds the record for the most number of catches in Tests (200). He has been involved in the maximum number of century partnerships. He was instrumental in India winning the famous test match against Australia, where India were forced to follow on, in 2001. Now the best part of it is, he has done all this without any fuss. And because of this no one has noticed the fact that he has achieved so much. He keeps it that way too. That is the greatness of the man. Now, fifteen years down the line, the man scored his 32nd Century in Test cricket on a difficult pitch, where his team mates struggled. After 150 test matches, he says that, he is still a student of the game. It shows that he is still remains as modest as he was when he debuted. I guess this is why he is one of the True Greats that the game has ever produced. His name is Rahul Dravid, A.K.A The Great Wall of India. We bow in awe to you...!!! Share your views... Balu.

Yet again Rahul Dravid played very well on a crumbling wicket and helped India to set a steady target. The wicket is definately not the best to bat on with a lot of uneven bounce making stroke play very difficult. But Dravid with his superb technique conquered all odds and completed his 32nd test century. Congratulations to him on a thoroughly deserved century. Dravid once agin proved why he has earned himself the wall. Even though he seen wickets faall regularly at the other end he held his ground and made up for his failure in the first innings. It certainly frustrated the WestIndies as they had put him down when he was just on 6. From then on it was no looking back as Dravid made the most of his opportunities and captalised on everything that came his way. Let hope India wrap this test match as soon as possible and go on to also clinch the series..

15 years later, Rahul revisited the day of his debut with another fighting century. A century that had all the hallmarks of his determination and doggedness which have been the highlights of his career. I would love to see Indian bowlers seal a victory to make the most of this knock from Dravid. He is truly the Great Wall of India. Good to see him back in the runs. Cheers! Ram

A moving tribute to the most selfless cricketer to have played for India. He has always led from the front. He has shown tremendous courage to modify his game to score more quickly in ODIs and has even volunteered to don the wicket keeper's gloves so that he gets to play in the 11. He did a great job and when the captaincy was given he played that role selflessly and always led from the front. That he played for the country was borne out by the Sachin(194n.o) when he boldly declared and wasted no time in going for a win. People were upset and so was Sachin but no one could ever fault his commitment. A gentleman cricketer from the land of Gundappa Vishwanath. what a century yesterday from the veteran player! Hats off to the great man.
