There are female priests and such in some religions and sects. Look beyond Christianity, which historically used women to spread its message but then ditched them when it became powerful. Neo-Paganism is particularly focused on gender equality.

then again the catholic faith has Nuns, and the orthodox greeks have their equivalant. Since those two used to be one solid entity, and the first major christian church, I'd say women always hae had place in the church, I think it's a good idea to keep the male and female clerics as seperate as possible to aid in their sworn chastity. I live very near to a buddhist temple and whenever I go there I see many female monks. The Islamic faith doesn't seem to embrace women very well. I don't know the situation in the hindu faith. I think equality is the only way to go myself.

In Christianity, woemn aren't supposed to have high standings in the church as a priest. The Bible says we should be more of teachers, like sunday school teachers even youth ministers. There are some Christian ministers who are women though, I actually know of one.

i'm a roman catholic, and i wondered that from the begining, i think i was just 7 years old when i asked my mom why women can only be nuns but not priest and why can't they be married, when other religions allow their pastors to be married.

Hey, that was on the radio this morning! Apparently in the UK the future of our religions is resting upon more female priests and stuff, because there are hardly any. I prefer more personal religions though, as opposed to the organized stuff. Through I did briefly(!) think about becoming a nun yesterday ^.^

I know in some religions there are female priests, and as far as it concerns the monks, the nuns are the female monks.

There are female priest in the church, female monks in Temples, female nuns and even female Bishops. So I am not sure there is a bias. What are you basing your statement on? I would have to agree that there is a male majority, but I don't believe that was what you meant. As for the Catholic church, they look up to Mary rather than Jesus.

It Depends on how hard you look. There are many female Preists and monks, even transgendered ones as well. I know the Universal Life Church, (three types) have them Universal Unitarian, Types of Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Church of the Seven Plane, Universal Ministries.. I am ordained by four different churches my physical gender is female. I identifiy myself as male or gender neutral. So not all religions and churches have gender restrictions in their traditions, and those who do are not always really doing so for discrimination but are doing to to try to stick with traditions that were passed onto them, as they were taught..... You read very closely and carefully into the reasons certain churches do not allow women as preists and ministers. Some of the reasons may appear silly, but others are understandable...

i gather you are some sort of priest yourself, well i guess the question then should be shall religion break away with this traditions for the sake of the female gender. greetings. : )

because religion tends to put the masculine gender ahead of females according to importance. god is always referred to as masculine so his phrophets or deciples will most likely be men.

I personally know a female Bhuddist monk, so you're wrong on that account. Some religions can accept women as athourity figures, others don't. I don't understand it either; I feel like women are as capable as men.
