In my life span of more than 60 years, I have formulated a way for how a person can be happy. 1. Minimize your needs : Fix by yourself what and how much you need for survival, and on achieving that, don't go beyond that. This will necessarily be minimizing your needs of life. A person's happiness in inversely proportional to his/her needs. 2. Have enough of free time : Once you minimize your needs, and have less of problems, you get a lot of free time to feel the essence of freedom. And this itself makes a person happy. 3. Think creatively in your free time : Once free time is obtained, utilize this time in thinking creatively for expanding your space within yourself and in the society. 4. Be creative : And lastly, be creative through innovative thoughts and activities of your own. This provides the ultimate happiness in life.

That's a nice advise from a wise and experienced man like you. That's true, simplifying our needs would make us contented and happy in whatever things we have. In our simplicity, activities that brings out the best in us give us fulfillment thus making us happy. To be simple . . is to be happy.

yes, i am happy because i am contented with what life has to offer. Despite some minor problems, i am still happy traversing life. Problems to me are challenges we have to hurdle. Once we have hurdled them, we have to congratulate ourselves and be happy, we did it!

That's nice formula of achieving happiness. My views about happiness is when we felt in our heart with contentment. But yes i do agree with what you wrote here sir. I do believed that ,at your age, you've been through many stages in life that will take me 2 more decades to see, learn what you've already seen in this life.

No, age does not matter much. Even a child may be right as compared to an adult. You are intelligent enough to be comparable to me, and I respect your views. Contentment is the primary key to happiness.

Exactly Mr rambansal you are right, minimizing needs expect the needs of survival is major factor for the happiness of life. Apart from this Quran and Sunnah teaches us how we can live a peaceful and happy life by bieng mindful of Allah and by totally trusting and worshiping Him. By understating qadar(fate) positively, we will not live a stressful, unhappy-life for always worrying about our future or what the consequences of our actions will be. We have to do our best to fulfills Allah's obligations and we have to trust and accept what ever He wills for us.

Sorry dear saif, I beg to differ with you on both the points. Our work and morality are enough for happiness with no need of anybody higher up like Allah or God. Secondly, we write our fate by our deeds subject to our circumstances. The concept of Allah and that of fate have weakened humanity enough and drawn it away from working hard with self-confidence. I am in this world to fight out these misconceptions in minds of humanity.

Wise words rambansal! I'm over 60 too, and I think people in our age group mostly have the same philosophy. Too often now-a-days, people seem focused on more and more of lifes pleasures through 'things' purchased. When you live simply and within your means and needs, it simplifies things a lot. I also try and be creative every day no matter what I'm doing. Whether it's in the kitchen, writing my stories, or working in the garden, creativity makes the day more interesting for sure! And, as far as free time...when my children were growing up, I helped the school as a volunteer, was a volunteer tutor (for adults), and had a busy schedule almost all of the time. Now that I no longer work and have that busy schedule, I find more enjoyment just stopping to 'smell the roses'. Life passes by so quickly, each moment of free time doesn't need to be filled with activity, it should be cherished just for the quiet and peace it brings us.

Hi there Rambansal! Finding happiness is one of life's major mysteries. But, sometimes, the answers are so simple that we don't recognize what it is even though it's right in front of us. We don't know that we do not need to spend a fortune, travel around the world, be with lots of people just to find happiness. Happiness may come from an innocent child's smile, from a hug, from a stranger's smile. Thank you very much for your list and I'm sure that a lot of Mylotters may benefit from it.

For getting happiness, first of all, you need to be a seeker of it, in everything you confront. The greatest happiness, I found to date, is from the petty laborer's work I do on constructing a dream home for myself with my hands, working for about 1/2 hours a day whenever I am at home and get time, for the last 5 years. It may take another 2/3 years to get completed - thus a source of long-term happiness for me.

Constrained to inform you that I am yet to find my true love to feel the happiness of 'loving and being loved'. I am open on that but not desperate and losing whatever happiness I am having out of my creative works, I keep busy in. I work only what I love to do, and I love whatever I do. You are always welcome on this intellectual plane to feel and let me feel the happiness of closeness.

"Being happy is a great talent" and that any talent, and have grown not only be born with it. Or is a talent that can achieve through hard work? The name you carry happiness for me is: "The joy of living on earth" and I try years, many years to develop this capacity, talent, blessing ... Meanwhile I found out that for reasons of happiness are so many only to have eyes to see. And it begins with gratitude for what you already have. Your happiness formula is rated, you have lived in the form of seconds, minutes or more, and the fact that is permanent, happier to do the simplest way possible.

My dear edsss, nobody is junior or senior in the intellectual world we are in. Even an infant has instinctive talent to teach us a lot, provided we are open to receive. You are always welcome, as an intellectual friend to teach me whatever you have and I have been missing. And such thing are always in abundance. All the best for your endeavors in life.
