Can I earn by playing online games?

I have some friends who told me that they earn just playing online games. I am not talking about the making money from gaming through gaming competition. But I want to know if we can make real money online by playing online games.
Any comments in this topic is highly appreciated.

There are a few sites that allow you to earn money by playing games, but it's not a lot of money, unless you want to take a risk of gambling. If you actually want to make some money, you're better off spending your time on something with a good return.

I agree with you. Although there many online entrepreneurs making lots of money. But that number is quite few comparing to total number of internet users. And rest of them are doing offline job for their livelihood.
So it is advisable to have a secure offline job then try out online earning opportunities.

yes frind...a few months back i saw some site which pay for playing online games similar to mafia was....it was named as mafia empire...But I dont know its still there or not..

Real money means good cash so i dont understand what you mean by it. But can one really earn from gaming unless it is gambling which i never reccomend anyone to attempt

By real money I meant not virtual money, which can be earned playing many games. But these virtual money will not be valid in real world they are only valid online.
So I wanted if there are some sites from which I can make money which will be valid in real world also.

Well, I know you can make money by selling in-game currency like gold and such. There are a number of MMORPG that you can play to do this. There's World of Warcraft, Aion, Guild Wars, etc. Just farm enough gold for you to be able to sell them to sites that buy them. Other than this, I don't have any other idea on how to make money just by playing games online.

It seems that there are some websites will allow you to earn money when you play the games online. However, the problem is I don't know which of them are legit to pay for me. If you know such a website, please let me know and I would like to be your referral:)

Yes, there are different sites which pay you for playing games. I am member of two of them and I am really satisfied with them.
At one site there is a member who makes around 100 euros per day, without making any investment. Now, that I have more spare time, I will all their documentation and I will make my best to reach that level as well.
