My cat is a pig.

He always eats too fast and then gets sick. I have recently started feeding him three times a day instead of just twice to cut down on the problem then he looks at me pitifully as if to say all I get is half a bowl of food. I guess this is a common problem with stray cats and when we got him he was a stray kitten. We dewormed him and he has been to the vet and the vet said the only thing wrong with him is scarf and barf syndrome which means he eats his food too fast. If he does this more than once a day of throwing up then I give him only half a can of wet food the next meal. It is what the vet recommended for him. He is not underweight- truth be told he has a little bit of a gut and he is brushed regularly.

I have a young cat that does this all the time--he was abandoned as a very young kitten, but we adopted him when ye was 8 weeks old, and have had him for almost a year so you would think he would have figured out by now that he is going to get fed several times a day! His issue is that he wants to finish off his food fast enough to push his way into the other cats' bowls and polish off their food, too! We have tried giving him less food, but that just lets him get to the other cats' food bowls quicker! And if we stagger their feeding times, he just cries and gets so upset he throws up anyway. Although his official name is Muffin, we now call him Pit--short for Bottomless Pit. He answers to both lol!

Our cats name is Tigger but we have nicknamed him Pigger because he eats fast and he grunts like a pig while he is eating.

Actually this sounds like our cat. He eats basically whatever is left out and he'll eat it all therefore over eating and barfing it back up again. What we did is feed him 3 times a day. 1/4 cup each time 3 times a day that's 3/4's cup of food. If you read on most cat food labels this is all there suppose to be eating anyways. And I've found he still eats his food fast but not so much that it ends up getting thrown up after. So it is worth it it's just feedings 3 times a day kind of sucks in a way. Specially when you go on vacation. For that we just leave a few dishes of food thru out a few rooms. Seems to work anyways as there is no throw up anywhere in site when we return. I hope it works for your four legged friend too :)

by the way our cat was a stray too and he is now about 8 years old and if we give him to much to eat he still barfs :| So bewarned it may not go away completely but it will help with the amount of messes you get :)

My dog is a pig too. My dad usually calls her a little, cute pig, but he is right. She eats too much, sleeps too much and goes out to paly too much. I do not understand how she is going to keep her almost incredible weight when she is walked so often? She eats a big bowl of dog food a day and has biscuits and walnuts as deserts.

I hope that he adjusts soon. It can't be fun for him if most of what he eats comes back up. I've heard of that, and your vet was right to recommend that for your animal. Don't worry though he'll eventually get better. A little bit at a time... that's the key.

I think you are giving him too much every meal. Cats are known to eat only meager amounts , so they would surely throw up when fed a very big meal. But i think, your cat really has a problem because he eats so fast. Normally cats eats slowly.

Awww. ..so since he was a stray he still is not sure there will be another meal later? Did the vet think he might get over that at some point? I hope you have good luck with what the vet told you to do. You must get tired of cleaning the puke. I bet he'll get over it eventually.

We keep stocked up on paper towels. It hasn't been as bad since we cut down on the amount of food that he eats at one time. Hopefully he will get over it eventually. Yes cleaning up a mess does get old.

one thing I've learned is if you have time, to only give a spoonful at a time - they may still gulp it down, but by controlling the amount, you can make them take a bit of time to eat

Cats were nocturnal animals for thousands of years before they were domesticated. They learned to hunt and kill at night, and sleep during the day. Consequently, they do best with one feeding a day. Give your cat all he can eat and take the remainder away until next day. If the cat eats too fast, try dry cat food, or mix some dry in with the wet food. Never give a cat human food. When you feed your cat once a day it will not become obese, and will have a slick and shiny coat.

Scarf and barf syndrome may be common for cats. Ours does the same thing sometimes. We still only feed it a 1/2 cup in the morning and 1/2 cup at night. She was just to the vet and the vet said she is in great shape. So I guess I shouldn't worry about her. However, I worry about me everytime I have to clean it up. I would like to barf myself everytime I see and need to clean it up. Best Wishes!

Oh I hate that vomit. I have almost stepped in a few of them here. I am so glad they are doing better since I do the same with mixing their food.
