Management Lesson 2: It doesn't matter whether you like me or not...

Rabbits - Gotta love them - They all so cute and cuddly. And trying to animate them is just so fun!

It's a fine sunny day in the forest and a rabbit is sitting outside his burrow, tippy-tapping on his typewriter. Along comes a fox, out for a walk. Fox: "What are you working on?" Rabbit: "My thesis." Fox: "Hmm... What is it about?" Rabbit: "Oh, I'm writing about how rabbits eat foxes." Fox: "That's ridiculous ! Any fool knows that rabbits don't eat foxes! Rabbit: "Come with me and I'll show you!" They both disappear into the rabbit's burrow. After few minutes, gnawing on a fox bone, the rabbit returns to his typewriter and resumes typing. Soon a wolf comes along and stops to watch the hardworking rabbit. Wolf: "What's that you are writing?" Rabbit: "I'm doing a thesis on how rabbits eat wolves." Wolf: "you don't expect to get such rubbish published, do you?" Rabbit: "No problem. Do you want to see why?" The rabbit and the wolf go into the burrow and again the rabbit returns by himself, after a few minutes, and goes back to typing. Finally a bear comes along and asks, "What are you doing? Rabbit: "I'm doing a thesis on how rabbits eat bears." Bear: "Well that's absurd ! " Rabbit: "Come into my home and I'll show you" Scene : As they enter the burrow, the rabbit introduces the bear to the lion. Moral: IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW SILLY YOUR THESIS TOPIC IS; WHAT MATTERS IS WHOM YOU HAVE AS A SUPERVISOR. Management Lesson in the context of the working world: IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW BAD YOUR PERFORMANCE IS; WHAT MATTERS IS WHETHER YOUR BOSS LIKES YOU OR NOT How in the frigging world do you become that rabbit?!?

Hi ahgong! I can see the analogy of the rabbit working for the lion with that of a student working under an adviser or an employee working under a supervisor. I just don't see how those fox, wolf and bear relate to the story. Unless they are considered as people who criticizes the work of the rabbit? And their criticisms wouldn't matter to the lion or the supervisor because the supervisor likes and believes on his employee. And then I think, the lion likes the rabbit because the rabbit brings him food. I don't know what kind of thing the employee can bring to his supervisor so the supervisor can like him aside from good work. But good work is not considered here since the performance is bad.

I guess we're stronger than lions.

Yep, having connections really does help, too. If you know someone at the top of the food chain, your @ss is safe. When it comes to the workplace, I really can't believe how important politics really is. You really have to know a lot of people in order for you to survive.

haha. INteresting and this is so funny! I like the animals depicted in your story here.. haha I have to agree that what matters is whether boss likes us or not. IF boss doesn't like us, no matter how well we do, it's useless since they won't be able to see the positive side of it. In them, biased is top priority and good efforts are clouded by that.. haha

Avoid being the rabbit, when you fail to deliver you will be the dinner. But if you want to be, just bring your boss treats. Cheers.
