When Have Your Instincts Kicked In?

My daughter wasn't feeling good last night so I let her sleep in my bed. Something woke me up out of nowhere and I turned over and grabbed her. She was about to fall right off my bed and hit the floor. I turned over just in time. It had to be 2 seconds before she fell. My bed is really high off the ground so that would have been a bad fall. When have your motherly instincts kicked in for you? What was it that you just knew without any evidence? Was it a fall, a bad relationship, trouble they were getting into?

I'm no mother and never will be but I do have a 6th sense. I feel my heart fall into my stomach and I know something during my day will need me to be strong to get through. Sometimes it is something will be out of place all the way to a major change but I get a heads up.

Don't be sorry. I am not good mother material! I have no patience for children.I would see them as a curse not a blessing. And I have been this way since I was 7!

I'm sorry that you will never have kids. My children are the joys of my life. I wish I had a 6th sense. I only feel things like that very rarely.

Wow, that was close..My kids are so big now, but I am sure there were many times I reached for them just in time to keep them from falling or getting into something they shouldn't. My bed is also high off the ground, so I am positive that was another place where I prevented them from getting hurt..Mothering instincts are wonderful, aren't they???

Well, like I said, it has been years, but your comment about her getting from one place to another reminded me of this morning..I knew my dog, Ciara, was on the floor, and I don't think I fell back to sleep, but when I rolled over, not only was Ciara next to me, but her head was on my pillow... She isn't suppose to lay on my pillow, only at my feet and I have no clue how she got over me and up to my pillow without me knowing...

I've had my instincts kick in like that before. One time my husband, my daughter and I were heading downstairs. My daughter was probably only around 18 months to 2 years old. I'm not sure what made me turn around, I guess my motherly instinct, but as I turned around she was coming down the steps. She had lost her balance and started to fall without making a sound. My husband saw me react and turned and caught her in time. She had rolled down like 2 steps, but didn't get hurt at all.

Exactly! That was definitely your motherly instincts. They kick in it seems out of nowhere. Mine does all the time and I am grateful for them! I'm glad she didn't get hurt. My daughter didn't either thanks to those instincts we have built in!

Motherly instincts are just wonderful and they happen all of the time. They can also leave you feeling very uptight when your kids get older and you just know that what they are out doing is not something you would approve of but we have to let them live their lives. Enjoy the young motherly instincts while they last, when they grow up the get worse for more reason!

They are wonderful! They have saved my children many times. Oh great. I am not looking forward to when that happens. I am not ready for teenagers and all of that mess. =( I wasn't a bad teenager so hopefully mine won't be but I know that is just a dream...Lol

LOL. I wonder the same thing. I just gave birth to my first over a month ago and I still don't have maternal instincts. :) Yesterday, he had a slight fever due to his immunization. I was so scared, I packed up and slept over at my mom's. In the middle of the night, my mom woke me up because baby was screaming his lungs out. Didn't hear him at all and he was sleeping beside me! Maybe it'll kick in in time, I just hope it won't be because of a bad incident or something like that.

It will soon kick in don't worry. It takes time for some people. It will happen trust me. And, when your subconscious knows there is someone there that will help it relies a little on that person. When I lived with my mother for a short time when my son was born she would hear him crying and I wouldn't. I felt like a bad mom. Then we got our own place and wouldn't you know I heard him every single time he cried or made a noise! We don't even realize that we are counting on someone else but it's amazing how we do that...When your by yourself and no one is there to help you will hear everything in your sleep!
