What do you think of K-Pop?

I live in an Asian country where K-Pop is hugely favored and celebrated we even have conventions dedicated to Korean pop. We have a ton of fanclubs and even cover groups for different Korean artists, bands, groups, etc. I'm curious if the 'Korean wave' is happening in other countries as well most particularly in Western countries such as UK and America. I know that there are K-Pop fans all over the world but I just don't know if it's a massive hit or if it's already mainstream in Western countries.. What is your opinion on K-Pop? Do you think it's just a catchy type of music? Do you dislike or favor it?

well it's just nice to hear their songs, and the singers look cute and always dressed to kill, but i prefer those songs that i understand, and here in the philippines there are so many good singers and nice songs.

Well basically, Kpop is the trend which is in fact, happening around the world. Things relating to korea, be it songs or food or even their TV shows, it's circulating around the world, even in Paris! I've been listening to Kpop since 2006, at that time, Kpop wasn't trending in my country. Now, almost everybody in my school is listening to Kpop and especially the girls, they are discussing about their favourite boy bands this and that, which is expected of girls. To me, Kpop is unique in its own sense, I feel it's different from other English and Chinese music. Kpop has its own type of music which makes it sound really different from songs we hear today. I like Kpop mainly because of that. Even the love songs are touching and sensual, that's what I look for in love songs. Catchy songs would be those upbeat ones and even that, they are also unique. As of now, I've been fully integrated into Kpop and seldom listen to music which I've been listening for the previous years.

I'm a singer/songwriter from the UK, and have never heard any K-Pop until just now (I'm listening on You Tube to some selections). I don't think it's heard in the UK. I can't speak for the US. Listening to it, it doesn't sound too different from the kind of Pop/R&B/Dance style Pop that is popular over here. Although I'm not an expert, and rarely listen to UK Pop. But it seems to me that Pop is similar in most countries today, with its fusion of Pop, R&B, Dance, Hip Hop and so on. Listening to it on You Tube, I find it quite catchy; although I'm a bit old for it. But the tunes and rhythms are pleasant enough to listen to.

Not mainstream but it does have a reasonable following among my Asian friends (most of whom are Chinese or Japanese).

hmm. let me guess, are you a Filipino, by any chance? :)) I think, K-Pop is just a catchy type of music, in the sense that they sound new to us. I mean, other than the lyrics being "alien" to non-Koreans like us, so to speak, K-Pop brings a new vibe to the entertainment industry, in terms of looks, talent, "soulfulness," and/or depth of the production, not to mention the sensibility of their lyrics, albeit the "misused" english words (I remember this particular song: I'm so fly, like a bird" LOL). I mean, that's just it. It sounds new to us. Not the typical pop music.

It's trending now but eventually it will die down like all the other "fevers". It's nice to know that people appreciate music but I'm just wondering how you they do it when they don't even understand the lyrics. I mean c'mon, seriously? Well, I guess it's all in the beat/tunes or something. Music is a good thing so I guess we'll just have to enjoy it!
