I'm getting impatient to know the gender of my baby

Philippines
August 3, 2011 9:35am CST
I'm on my 25th week of pregnancy and I am scheduled for another ultrasound. I am really excited to know the gender of my baby but the problem is, here in India they don't allow gender determination because some insane mothers here kill their babies when they know if its a baby girl. It really freaks me out up to this moment that they prohibit gender determination when in fact what they should prohibit is the law of abortion. Its really insane and I don't know what colors to buy (pink or blue) for my baby. What should I do? I really am like a curious cat to know my baby. I am not crazy to kill my own flesh and blood and besides I am a foreigner in this country.

That's interestung to know strawberry. Why would people do that in this time and age I think that's rather backwards. Anyway, i don't know how to help you as to the gender of your child. They say if the mother is blooming during pregnancy, it's usually a girl. Umm..do yiu feel preetier now even as yiu are carrying your child?

Hi Beingwell, yes it's really a bummer! My cousins says I'm blooming, but as what I see to myself I don't. I really can't figure out if its a watermelon or a basketball belly . I just don't know if my next U.S. would let the baby's genitals be shown so that even if they don't tell me, I can have other peoples opinion about it once I have the printed copy.

Hello my dear. My advise is to don't stress out about it. Maybe you should buy some unisex-colored clothes for the baby for now. When you finally know your baby's gender (perhaps when you gave birth, hihihi), you can then buy him/her more baby stuff!

surely all colours are unisex.

I think that law is unreasonable and i agree that it's abortion that they should abolish. Well there's nothing you can do about it but could you ask your doctor about your pulse rate? My doctor once told me that baby boys have faster heart rates than baby girls. So before i had my ultrasound to find out my baby's gender my doctor already predicted it was gonna be a boy based on the heartbeat. Long time ago, doctors or even quack doctors just use the pulse rate to determine the baby's gender as well. Try to buy baby's things in white to be safe.

the doctor did not recommend me to have any doppler reading, sigh! well anyway I needed to accept that I cannot do anything now to know baby's gender till I give birth

The ultrasound report did not even included the pulse rate, they just stated that fetal cardiac pulsation and active movements are well seen, hmmm sounds like that they know that trick so they don't include it. Indeed I will buy white for now, for accessories and such, need to go for greens and yellows.

Don't the doctors there check the baby's heartbeat using a doppler? You can get your own pulse rate actually. Just count it per minute and you would know.

I feel sad for you. I know how it feels because I already have 3 kids. Knowing your baby's gender will help you prepare the necessary things. But then, if it is really not allowed in your country, better follow the rules. Maybe, just buy things that can be used by a baby girl or baby boy.

out of interest, what things does a baby need that aren't suitable for both boys and girls? because in my experience, there's very little difference between girl babies and boy babies. they have the same needs.

@Jsae- yes, I do follow rules, what else can I do right? it's just that this is my very first baby, I was really thrilled and excited when we came to know the blessing. But anyway, it is still a blessing whether I don't know yet the gender. @Galena- Yes, mostly whites are for babies, just that I cannot decide yet for the crib, other stuffs and with designs.

It is a pity to know that some parents are still looking backwards and feel girls are useless to their family. But, in actual life, girl and boy are of equal position now, so it is alright whether we are having a girl or a boy. Since you are not allow to have the gender determination scan, i think you can go for white color. I buy my first trip of baby clothes all white because i am unsure the gender of my baby. When i know he is a boy, i buy most of my baby clothes in blue color. I also buy many other colors since i like to see many kind of colors in my son wardrobe.

Yes, it is indeed exciting to buy stuffs which you know for a girl and stuffs you know for boys. I won't be buying with designs but I will go for solid colors for now. I cannot do anything here and it makes me sad, I would also be skipping my very first baby shower

How to determine your baby gender? I got a suggestion. It have been proven right 3 out of 3 times and I'm quite confident about it. Now you are pregnant. if you can find a baby boy, I haven't try girl yet, go try to hold him and make him sit with you. If the baby boy want to be close with you, it is a girl and if the baby boy refuse to go near to you then it is a boy then. Maybe it is a law of attraction as boy always attract to girl. How can I confirm this? When he was just 1 year plus, my friend wife get pregnant. He was so close to her and want to sit with her for a long time. When she gave birth, it was a baby girl. Then another friend of ours get pregnant. My son almost two that time. He also want to sit with her. She gave birth to baby girl as well. Now my sister-in-law pregnant. My son just 2 that time. He never want to be near his aunty no matter what. If his aunty take him, he will run away and if his aunty hug him, he will try to escape. She gave birth and it was a baby boy. So 3 out of 3 is a perfect ratio. You can try this method and come back and tell me what is the result when you gave birth.

wow, that's a unique observation marcmm, but unfortunately I can't try this one, I don't know any kid from here (still a stranger) since I am not in my own country, so I can't borrow any neighbor's kids too. My sister in law's kids are already grown ups and they live far away from us too so, I can't do this experiment. But thanks for the response, I did enjoy what I hear from you

oww... I haven't had any tips on my sleeverding baby gender apart from what I know. I also heard that there are a few ways to determine baby gender. Looking at the mummy's belly is one way. There are certain shape that suggest the baby gender. Than I also heard about the mummy's behaviour.

i didn't get to find out what gender my babies were before i gave birth to them, and in a way i quite enjoyed waiting to find out. it is quite exciting at the moment it arrives to find out if its a girl or a boy, it really is quite exciting. why don't you try to enjoy not knowing, though in a way i did know, as i just instinctively knew. for almost all of the time there have been humans on this planet people haven't known what gender their babies are before they are born, this is a modern phenomenen. there are a few supersitions that are supposed to predict these things, you could play with them, but i would just try to enjoy it, after all, it was, until recently, the experience of most new mothers.

Well Francesca, superstitious or not, I will just try to calm myself down and accept the reality here that I would be preparing myself in surprise if it's going to be a boy or a girl. Need to prep names also, hmmmm! anyway thanks for your response.

yes, think of it like a surprise birthday present.....................

well in my opinion there isn't a colour that boys should have and a colour that girls should have. get a range of lots of different colours. boys can wear pink and girls can wear blue, so if it's the colours that are worrying you, it doesn't matter.
@Galena (9110)
5 Aug 11
what about a nice shade of purple. that's half way between blue and pink. and one of the best colours there is.
• Philippines
5 Aug 11
You are right Galena, but I do mind the colors since pinks here have flowers and Barbie dolls . It's okay for solid colors, but if there was really designs, I really need to skip. Anyway, I will go for safe colors , for now, white, shades of green and yellows will do. Can't even design a decor for baby for now, need to wait, sigh

It is such a shame you are not allowed to find out pink or blue. In my home country in the mid 1990s they didn't disclose the baby's gender. I thought he and when he was born I saw I was right. I bought white and yellow to stay away from pink and blue. Once he was born I added some blue. I had two more children in 2007 and 2009. I was able to find out the gender at 16 weeks pregnancy and get this confirmed at 20 weeks pregnancy. It was another blue and then a pink. Two of my friends thought they were having a girl but they had boys. The ultrasound person had got it wrong. Good luck.

although I fully can understand your impatience about your baby's gender, but is it really that important to know the gender? you can buy whatever you want and like for your baby it doesn't matter what color it is. what really matters is that you're about to get a new person in your life and share your days together. it matters more that the baby is healthy than what color of clothes to buy for him/her. anyway your baby will not know if it wears another color of clothes or not :) wish you all the best, and good luck

I am shocked to know that some mothers there in India would kill their babies if it is a girl. Why don't they like a baby girl? They're insane if they do that. Oh it's sad that the tradition there prohibits ultrasound to determine the gender. Well, as to the color of the clothes to buy for the baby, just buy whites. I did that when i had my baby because ultrasound to determine the gender wasn't discovered yet.

Yes, very insane. They have abortion laws here and they prohibit gender determination, when in fact, the real sin would be abortion and not knowing the gender of your baby..

I can understand your impatience.CUZ In India they don't allow gender determination@In China it is the same, I think it is reasonale. Then you have a puzzle, you think there should be a law of abortion. This kind of law can not get through. Some people get pregnant by accident, they will not have babys. So, try to adapt to it. You can buy your child's clothes after given birth then.

My friend, I will never adopt a system that is against the law of God, abortion is still killing whether you got accidentally pregnant or not, you did the action, why blame the baby for your sins? In this country I will just respect what their law applies but as for my conscience, I will never ever adopt what you said because abortion is evil to me.

Hi there! It is really insane. I don't know why people have to do that? And these are women and if there parents decided to abort them because they were females I don't know they could even take aborting their an innocent. That is very selfish. Would it make them happy if they never came out of this world because they were aborted for being females? Please don't be worried and you don't have to be impatient. Be happy with whatever your baby is just as long as it comes out healthy. That is the most important thing. It is not important how others think. What's important is you and your child. Apple green is a nice color for both gender. Be happy my friend. Congratulations!

Hi Thetis, yes really insane. I need to accept that I have to prepare a baby name for a boy and for a girl. I would also be skipping on baby shower because I don't have close friends here and they don't even know baby showers here duhhh ,argghhh. Ohh well, what else to do but to accept that I am not in my own country!

I guess you can't do nothing but wait till your next ultra sound... I am sad about that fact that some women there kill babies when they find out its a girl... There are so many ladies who want a child and cannot... its sad those things happen. But good luck for you on your ultrasound. Be patient and enjoy the wait.

I had my ultrasound yesterday but the one who administer it, did avoid to see the portion to where the genitals can be seen. He was just showing my hubby the head, the placenta and thighs, that's it, very limited. I cannot do anything, need to accept that I won't be having also any baby shower here .

That's an interesting facts. Ultrasound can determine the gender of you're baby. Maybe you should convince you're doctor to show it you. It is really you're right to do that. You can demand them if you really want to know the gender. Otherwise don't pay if they will not allow you. Maybe that helps :-) or buy white clothes.
• Philippines
5 Aug 11
Hi Zerds, the doctor will just inform you to go to a certain ultrasound test, so the one who will conduct it will file the report and you will give it to your doctor. But anyway, they will not tell you at all since they will be sanctioned so I better keep my mouth shut and ask them about it. I will opt to buy whites and shades lighter in color.

Killing her own child? That is effin horrible!? Why they do that just because of not liking the gender of their babies. God is watching those people...more! Try to choose yellow color i think that color is unisex. SO your a foreigner? I have a friend from India also... Congrats to your new baby whatever gender it is. Be grateful coz it is GOd's gift. And many couples who do not have the chance to have a baby are envying us who have little angels around us... Just pray that your baby in your womb is healthy. Take vitamins... Good luck. God bless you always...
