It seems to be hard to get a part-time job

I'm a 19 year old college student and I'm finding it very difficult to get a job. I've applied to a bunch of places but it just seems like no one's hiring. One of the places decided to give me an interview but after I went to it, I never got the job. It's really frustrating because I would like to start saving up so I can live on my own. In the meantime I'm participating in earning sites, including myLot. Unfortunately, this doesn't generate enough income to substitute as a job. A few days ago I applied to a bunch more places so hopefully I'll hear back from some of them soon. Maybe I'm having a hard time because it's summer and all the jobs are taken? I don't know but whatever it is makes me kind of sad. I really would love to get a job but nobody is hiring. I don't know if it's because this would be my first actual job besides babysitting and summer camp at the barn where I keep my horse and people are just reluctant to hire a 19 year old with no experience. But everyone has to start off somewhere and I just wish I could get hired :( Is anyone else experiencing this same problem?

I feel for you. It gets depressing sometimes when you tried really hard to look for a job and all your efforts seem fruitless. But you have to keep trying. In the meantime, while you're still looking for a job, why don't you try babysitting again? It's not a regular thing but at least you'll get some money from it. Good luck on your hunt.

Thanks, I do babysit whenever the family asks. It's not my favorite thing to do, but it makes me money so I do it anyways. I keep applying to all these places but everywhere seems to want at least 2 years of experience. I've never had a real job before so I don't have experience in a restaurant or using a cash register. I'm going to keep trying and hope that one employer will be brave enough to hire a college student that's never had a job before.

I know what you mean. I tried applying for jobs, but either I don't get called in for an interview, I don't have the right qualifications, or the places that are hiring are for jobs I don't want to do. I'm using some online sites to make extra money, but it really isn't sufficient. Maybe you could try looking for a job in retail, like a department store, if you don't mind doing that.

Yeah, I think my next step will be retail. I would love to work in a restaurant where I could increase my earnings by getting really good tips. But it seems every single restaurant wants 2 or more years restaurant experience. If every restaurant is like that, then I have no idea how people are able to get jobs, it just doesn't make sense. It's really frustrating. So I think I might look around and see if there's a department store that I'd like to work at. In the meantime, I guess I'll just have to try and do my best with earning online lol
