Do I really need to go to church to be good person? I can answer for this question but I'm curious your opinion. I knew many people who went to place or worship any kind of religion and they were malicious, jealousy and careless about any human being. I can confess that I don't go to church but I help other people, I'm trully devoted to my partner and my family and I help them as I can. What you think about it. Do we really need to be engaged in any kind of religion to be good people?

I cn say from my experience that YOU do nothve to go to church to be a good person. You are already a very kind, giving, and generous person. I don't think that you have to go to church to prove anything. I've also known many people that go to church just for appearances' sake. They are hypocrites who wouldn't do anything nice to save their own mother. So no you do not have to go to church to be a good person. I think you were just born that way, or your parents did a very goodjob teaching you values.

Also they started giving me some problems with my previous job. Also I knew one person who was going to church and this person burn his dog alive.

I think people go to church or as a matter of fact any house of worship is because they are followers of that particular religion, not that they want to be 'good' persons. It is part of the formality and ritual of Christinity that Christian need to go to church to worship Lord and listen to gospel every Sunday. While other religions may have requirement that their believers go to their places of worship several time a day or on specific day. Having understand that, one should know that by going to any places of worship or church will not necessary make him /her a good person, as being a good person take more than just going to Church on a weekly basic in the eye of God.

I don't think you need to believe in a religion at all for people so see you as a good person. Mostly, people will remember you with all the things you've done so if you want to be remembered as a good person, I suggest you start doing good things to others.

It's also a question to myself. Im not active in church since I was in highschool. So it's been ten years now. Imagine. I think the last time I went to church was during our baccalaureate mass. I have to attend the mass because that is a requirement before graduating to college.I remember I confessed to a priest back in highschool days that I do not go to church. That confession also is a requirement in highschool. I don't understand these schools I went from. I feel like Im hypocrite but I need to do this in order to pass. Anyway, so I confessed to the priest that I do not go to church every sunday. And so he forgave me of course. But after a week, I went back to my old habit of not going to church. Crazy me. The question is, Am I bad because I do not go to church? I say not really. Because I do not hurt other people, I do not bully other people, I do not steal, I lie of course but I think that's normal. :). I do not want to go to church because it's boring and I get sleepy. And I don't want to force myself to do things not wholeheartedly. That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it. :)

Corruption of the Church put me off going to that place. When I still lived in my noticed country I've seen many times new cars of the priests. They did not help anyone. They involved church in the politic. They told people how they should vote. That was awful. Since that time I'm not going to church.

Yeah right, especially catholics keeps on involving on politics issue. They keep on protesting and they are against on some project that the government propose like RH bill here in the philippines. RH bill for me is ok and the best solution for the growing population and increasing poverty. But, this law is being delayed because of the catholic's stupid principle.

No, we don't. This is my answer. Sometimes I think religion has been misleeading us to some wrong doings. Everyone has his own ideas of what is good or bad. And most importantly I think people have many common sense towards good qualities or good deeds. What differs is our real actions. To put out into action of what we believe is right is often challenging.

I personally think you need not go to church or any other place to be good or morally upright in life . We know and often hear of people who are most corrupted and fradulent in life but regularly go to places of worship . Haven't you heard of people who steal shoes when coming out of temples , churches and mosques after worshipping God . Some basic goodness are instinctive while others are learnt from parents and outside environment like schools etc . If we have a crooked bend of mind it can never be corrected if we visit the church . But ofcourse some religious men like pasters and priests can influence our life and change it for good , but that's a different issue . I too don't go to church but prefer to follow the teachings of the Bible . You help others and fulfil commitments in life and that shows your righteousness .You are definitely a good person :)

Thank you for your comment my friend. Yesterday I was in state of shock while one of the myLot member tried to tell me that being good person its not enough and that I will go to hell anyway. He tried to prove that believing in "proper" religion can save my soul. So I asked him if serial killer who go to church every Sunday will go to heaven and good caring person will not? He wasn't bother to answer me. I believe everybody should do some good. Every day some small steps towards goodness no matter if you going to church or not. Being good person should be everyone priority. Anyway I'm scared religious fanatics because they talking can spread some confusion and make more mad than good.

It is what you do in your day to day life and how you do it that matters, not going to the church. A killer, who goes to church everyday, doesn't make a good person. And a person who is responsible, does his job, looks after his family and takes care of them, but doesn't go to church, doesn't make a villain. Religion is just a way for us to be better in life. If some people are good without it, then that's pretty nice. God, if there is one, will bless him in any case.

Do I really need to go to church to be good person? No. What good is it to go to church if you are going just to put on a show and say, "look at me I am a saint" Once you get out of church you go back to being the same hypocrite, jealous and evil person. You don't need to belong to any religion just be kind. You should have faith because you want to and not because somebody is forcing down your throat to believe in something that nobody really knows for sure if it is real.

All religions are codes of malicious practices. These are designed by cunning persons as their businesses of fooling others and enjoying life without any productive work. That is about those in this business. Two types of persons go to places of worship - innocents, under fear of God and Godly persons; and cunning dishonest persons to hide their sins. Really good persons, like you, are not at all required to go to any place of worship or any Divinely person.

Nope koperty. I don't think that we need to engage in religion to be what we called as "good people". Some of my friends from other religion has different view on this. Maybe this generation is different with our parents; somehow my friends did what they think is good. They do not follow their family to worship but they behave nice to other people. For example, whenever people around need help, they will give them a favour. So I think that to be a good people, we are not necessary have to worship.

Yup. That's why...a religion of course taught us to behave in the right way but it's not saying that those people going for worship is good. Human has their pressure and if they did not manage well, temper will come and they will did something bad.

Hello there koperty! I am going to answer your question in the context of my belief as a Roman Catholic. I learned that God is very understanding and He would never force any body to do anything against his/her will. That is we are given by God a freedom of choice. My parents were not devout Catholics but they always attend the Sunday mass and brought me and my siblings along with them. Now that I am married, there are plenty of things to attend to that sometimes I will not be able to attend the Sunday service in our church. But you know what? I always felt something lacking. I don't call it conscience but the week is void and empty if I did not attend our church service. And whenever me and my family attended the mass together I feel very light. I cannot really explain the feeling. But I know deep inside that God is very happy to see me in His house of worship every Sunday. My sister told me that the highest form of worship is our mass and I believe it is. And to answer your other question: No, you don't need to be engaged in any kind of religion to be good people but having faith and being a member of the church can help mold you so that your faith will be strengthen. I believe that God has endowed us with conscience which he has instilled in us. This is an unwritten law that guides us so that we know what is right or wrong.

For me, it also needs to engaged in any kind of religion where you have family or group you belong. .Your brothers and sisters in religion can help you if you have your problems. .we need also spiritual life. .Its good that you do good things to others and to your family. .Honestly speaking theres no religion that can saved you but atleast you have the church where you can go whenever you are depressed or happy where you can share your experience in life. .

I beileive that being a good person is portrayed by your actions throughout your life. If you live by morals and standards that guide you in way where you are kind, understanding, giving, generous and all those other nice things, then you are definately a good person. I believe that one does not need to go to church or even have a belief system for them to be kind to others and to do the right thing. The way you treat others and they way you are open to other people is the thing that determines if you are good or bad. Keep giving and treating people with respect and don't worry about what others think. Its your life and you get to decide how you want to live it. You have to live with the decisions you make, those poeple that judge you don't live your life and don't make your decisions for you. Live how you want to and forget about any judgements made. They are just jealous they can't be as awesome as you!

Well you shouldn't feel bad, your actions speak for you. If this person believes you are a bad person then maybe you shoudln't associate yourself with people who are close minded and blind. Your true friends are the people who support you and maybe this person saying what they said was a good thing because now you know that this is someone who doesn't support you and someone who is never really going to respect you and your way of life. You deserve to have better people in your life, dont settle for anything less than the best!

I went to church every Sunday while growing up, but as an adult I was turned off by organized religion as I find it to be a business just like any other. I do believe in God, but I don't think I have to go to church to show that. I think church is good for those who want to pray with others and sometimes I feel that need, but I don't think it is necessary to go all the time, and I don't think it is necessary to go to be a good person. I believe that my husband and I are both good people. We are always there to help others, we are faithful to one another, we are good parents, and good friends to our friends and are good to our families we are also law abiding and responsible citizens.

In my native country The church is very corrupted and involve with politic. I stop going to church after the priest did not want to take confession of my dying friend in hospital. He said that I need to call for taxi for him and pay for this. I was sick of anger that day.

For me, going to church or belonging to a political party are social things. They don´t always have anything to do with either beliefs or spirituality. I am not a church goer either and even more, I´m an agnostic. But I´m a caring and warm person and I have the blessing of having many friends and a good family. We help each other as muchas we can. I don´t think there´s any need of doing more than that, if you don´t feel it.

You're a good person in your own little way. You truly love your family and help them in their needs. But it is said in the bible that we have to cherish GOD by going to church even just for an hour. It's about giving God our love, going to church feels good and all your sins will be forgiven if you have faith. Godbless

I think that you needn't be religious in order to be a good person. I don't go to church, I never have, nor do I plan to. I believe there's something above us, perhaps not the stereotypical white-bearded man who shoots lightnings out of his palms, but there is definitely something that looks after us. Otherwise, I think our entire race would have obliterated itself years ago, knowing the human nature. And furthermore, I consider myself a good person. I try my best to help people, whether it's relatives, friends or complete strangers. I just try to be the best man I can. I'm sure you can do it too! Believe in yourself, if you don't in anything else!

There is no need at all to go to church , you can be good person either way. Even if you've done some kind of crime you still can be good. This thing is very very complex. One way to know if you're good is to think abouth if you've helped your best friends when there were in need. Cheers
