Seeking Information about Cruises

I am interested in going on a cruise. I have never been on one. I have been doing some research and it is complex and confusing at this point. I am looking for tips, feedback and suggestions. I am planning on traveling alone and I want my own cabin. I do not want a roommate. I know that I will be paying more but that is the way it is. I live in Texas so I will have to fly to the port and back. Extra costs. I am interested in hearing from mylotters who have been on cruises. What lines can your recommend? Are there any you would warn me against? What travel services can you recommend? Or should I go directly to the cruise line sites? I would appreciate any tips, suggestions, feedback.
