This may sound like a conundrum but it is really true. This line pertains to blood donations. Donation of blood is very common but to get the right donor is another thing. It may not be that easy because stringent screening of the donor is very crucial. Moreso , the blood typing and cross matching to avoid adverse reactions during blood transfusion which the donor has to undergo. In the advent of blood-related illness, one cannot just be nervous in having blood transfusion unless you know the donor and has passed the screening, and other procedures necessary to become a donor. Giving blood to people in need of it is life-giving to the donor. The fact that you are able to preserve the life of another person is likened to a treasure that cannot be bought.Aside from renewing your own blood components after the blood letting, it also makes the donor happy and fulfilled. It is given for free and not for a fee but due to the series of tests and procedures to be undergone, the recipient has to shoulder the expenses of it but the blood itself is FREE. It is also a reminder that our life was given for free and that if we have the chance to share it with anyone who needs some perks, we should be willing to share it. Thus GIVING becomes LIFE-GIVING.

The first time I tried to give blood, I lied about my weight. I said I was almost the 110 pounds needed. I think it was 110 that was needed. They said if I was close they would let me give because it was for a friend. If we gave blood in his name, he didn't have to pay for the blood he received. His insurance was such that if blood is replaced it's free. Well the blood bank people took one look at me and put me on the scale. I wasn't heavy enough. I was waaaay under the required weight. No go. All my friends gave and I couldn't. Many years later, I'm way over 110 pounds and tried to give blood during a blood drive for the solders. I got all the way through the screening process. It came to the time when they took my blood pressure. I didn't know blood pressure was an issue. Mine is low, no problem, right? Wrong! I thought mine was about 98/ 60 as it was the time before I took it. Apparently to give blood, the top number must be at least 100. I might have talked them into letting it slide if it was close. I wasn't close. They were looking in the normal range then tried higher when it wouldn't register. A normal reaction. I told the mine is very low so looked lower with a really strange look on their face as the pressure gauge went down and down. Ha ha on me. Mine was no where near what it should be, so they denied me. It was something like 80/50. I wish I could give blood but it would be dangerous due to my very low blood pressure.

Donating blood is not simple if you think it is. Your eagerness to donate can be emulated but as per procedure, you have to undergo a series of tests before you can qualify to have one. And based on your experience, it is the low blood pressure that makes you incapable of donating. Be healthy in all aspects. Who knows, one day you will be able to donate your precious blood to those who will need it. Once you are a donor, you also become a international recipient of it. Be sure to bring along with you the card issued after the blood donation.:-)

A long time ago, when I was just starting out in my career, the company I was with was really active in blood donation. We would have days specially for donation, and the company gave incentives for people that give. I gave. For me it was just something to do. But everytime we gave, we got a booklet which was some sort of 'credit'. I was actually able to give all my credits to an office mate whose husband was ill. He became a recepient of the blood (from the bank), and she's was really greatful to me. It was a 'life' that I received.

That was such a kind topic. It is really good. Every time I hear about blood letting I often envy the people who donates their blood to the needy. But I would be scared because I get dizzy occasionally after giving birth so I am scared that it might get worse for me. Now that I am pregnant and will have another baby it is more difficult to think of giving some. I will really need it for my self. Welcome to mylot my dear friend.

You need to take care of your self first before you can help others. :-D There's a saying that says, " you can give what you have but you cannot but you don't have":-)
