Gays becoming more abundant

It seems like the population of gay people is growing. Is this because they are becoming more acceptable(at least in some cultures)? Is it because they are more willing to reveal themselves? Or perhaps it is an evolutionary thing and is occurring as a means for nature to control the way too large expansion of the world's population? Certainly the world's population is really starting to strain the ability of the Earth to support it. Of course gay couples can still have children by adoption, artificial insemination or surrogacy; but all of these would in many cases result in the couple having fewer children. Few countries or religions have been willing to put limits on the number of children people can have. China is the only one that I have heard of and it didn't work well there as far as I am aware of. There seems to be little hope of expanding out to other planets or artificial worlds soon enough to help with the problem. Nature of course has other ways of controlling population such as disease, weather, earthquakes, etc. and perhaps this is a social one that is coming into play.

I like that idea, that gays is becoming a social way of controlling population. I do think it's because of evolution in our time. Gays are being socially acceptable as time goes on. It's surprising how in the office, when you meet someone good looking and you start to wonder if this guy's gay or not. Rumors go around that even those guys who act like guys, look like guys and talk like guys are actually gay. And they have proof. Sometimes it's frustrating to find out that the eye candies in the office are either married, or gay. And I have to find out from my friends because I don't have Gaydar, so I wouldn't know.
There's a saying where I come from that goes, "The only thing straight in this world is a ruler." Which when you think about it, is almost true. Almost every guy that I meet is in a relationship with another guy. Really pretty girls have lesbian relationships. And it's becoming as common as everything else.

apoljuice, it's not their fault they become gay. who wanted to be? I remember back in 1997 when i was in highschool there was a debate between guys and gays about their sexuality. a pretty gay said that if only he was born a real man or awoman he won't have a problem bbut he was born a gay, but his dad accepted it and something that he's happy about today

Hello stealthy, I believe that gays and lesbians have existed for thousands of years but the problem is who is REAL or just having a personality problem. there are those who are born 
gay and most of them have lately reveal it because of the conservative parents.one filipino actor who finally reveal himself after years of cover up. but it's not urprising any more. we just have to accept them. have a nice day

I really think that its because the world is changing and there are people who are more tolerant. I think that the population is around the same as it always was. Its just more people remained hidden or perhaps were afraid to confront their preferences for fear of being shunned. I think we can argue about whether its biological or a choice or whatever until we're blue in the face.
I think in more tolerance is the rather case. Granted there are still a lot of people who have beliefs that being gay is wrong for whatever reason and...well I'm not going to pry open those wounds. However, I think that the fact that New York legalized gay marriage is going to be something that opened up the flood gates for perhaps more people stepping up. Of course this will never be accepted, but there are a lot of things out there that will never be completely accepted. Such is life.

Hello stealthy,
I feel this is not evolutionary but now the world has been somewhat linient towards gays as in previous days being homosexual was like a crime but now they are allowed to reveal it and allowed to live like as per their wish 
which has encouraged them to come up in the light.But to say that the population of gays have increased these days seem to be wrong for me.

Well, back in the olden days, being gay was pretty recognized as a crime so many people didn't come out back then. But in today's society, there are many gay celebrities now and homosexuality is more widely accepted today. That could be why the gay population is growing because more people have more confidence to be more open with their sexuality. I don't know about nature doing its duty but it's nice that gay people can have rights to adopt children who don't have a loving family.

You could be right in saying homosexuality is one of nature's way to control population explosion.But as a lesbian, I would say that they are not becoming abundant, its just that we see more of them getting out of their closet with less fear of prejudice.Because some gays have been bold about gay rights and they won some of their cases, this kinda inspired other gays who are in hiding. Nobody wants to be gay... it is not fun I tell you. But its not fun to hide in the dark and be deprived of a good life and to develop into a useful human being on this earth.

I have done some research on this subject. From what I can tell, the number of those who hail to homosexuality remains fairly consistent - if you allow for those in the past that kept it to themselves. I think the main cause of the seeming increase is that it is trendy. In the United States at least younger people are encouraged to rebel against the norm and find their own unique selves. One way to do this is to be gay - whether legit or not. It is also a way to rebel against conservative parents. The growth in people who identify as gay may be artificial.
I doubt it's evolutionary since I haven't seen any medical news on the subject. They would have done a study on that by now if it was really significant. Furthermore, evolution takes a lot of a time. The world's population size has only been drastically growing for about a 100 years. In evolutionary time that is like a millisecond if not smaller.
