Fans of Harry Porter would have recalled a device which appeared in the movie Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire that looks and works like a pair of binoculars which wields magical time-freezing capabilities, as he used it to watch his favorite sport of Quidditch. Created by Sony, this digital binocular or ‘Vinoculars’ or video binoculars as Sony would be calling it will be the first device of its kind in the world. Equipped with two miniature cameras positioned in parallel, high-definition screens in the eyepieces and a memory stick slot, works similarly to a powerful zooming digital video camera. It is is believed to revolutionise birdwatching, horse racing, cricket and even opera. For a start, a birdwatcher to record a sighting of a rare species and then send proof to other watchers within minutes. A GPS receiver also notes the position of the sighting. It will let golf and cricket spectators enjoy their own action-replays at live tournaments or test matches. This new technology also allows music fans to record and watch concerts in 3D, while recording the sound in stereo. However, I wonder how the entertainment industry will look at this device and allowing it into future live concerts. On the hindsight, don't expect the Vinoculars to be cheap as they will go on sale in November with a hefty price tag expected at £1,800. This is a great invention! I am hoping that this will come in like a fever later in the market so that it will then be affordable for us. However, it is more or less the same with digital cameras and video cams...maybe this should have more than what we expected so as to distinguish itself from cameras...

miessy24, I don't think the popularity would be large and impressive. For one, it is not suited for all kinds of events and occasions. More for certain hobbyist like bird watching, operas or live performances. However, I am anticipating a powerful zooming capable videoing smartphone in the near future by Sony Ericsson.

Hello sky, I'd probably have to wait for a ecade or two until it becomes cheap. unfortunately, this new technology can be used for evil people in the Philippines who usually uses videos in the movies and concerts to create a PIRATED DVD! that's why digicams are no allowed in the cinemas here. but this is cool probably for spying and stuff

LetranKnight25, I believe the price will be lower when it hits the shelf at the authorized dealers, as what is being quoted here is merely official retail. I am with you on the anti piracy issue and not so much for movies but I am thinking along the likes of live performances, concerts, operas and sporting events. On the note of spying, I suppose curtain and blinds businesses will be booming when this device makes its way into the market.

That is such a cool thing to have coming available. I really can't see any reason that I would need to have a pair of them at first release, but it would be something that I would love to be able to have in the future. At first release, I can definitely see these revolutionizing the way that professional and college level sports games are called. In addition to that, I also think that they will be great for those people that love to look for the beauty in everything. And, the price is low enough that they could be used for athlete betterment as well.
