Name me only one animal that you must have to keep as pet. Tell me what is in it make you so desire of it to live with you at home and where ever you go. I personally like to have a rabbit as my pet, the reason is that i like the look of rabbit and it has some sort of mood calming effect to deserve my attention. How about you, mylotters!

I would like to have cat. I love them. They are so elegant and just amazing. For now I can only dream about it. Few months ago I had two mini Roborovski hamsters. But they were old and just past away. I really loved them and I miss them so much. I don't want any animal which lives so short. It's breaking my heart when they die.

that's the only downside with rodents. one of my rats is really starting to feel her age, and I don't think she'll be around much longer. she's not even two. it's so sad. (I have been very fortunate in the past, and had a rat that lived to be about five or six. even some of my hamsters made about four.) the other rat, her sister, is still as perky and lively as anything, but she's getting quite stiff, and I think her balance and eyesight aren't up to much anymore. but she's eating and drinking well, and seems happy in herself. I just wish they lived longer. they have such wonderful natures.

Hamster is cute tiny fellow, it is a great play toy for children, i think. Do you have any idea what is the average life span for hamster, Koperty? I assume it has very short life span, guessing may be less than five years, is that right? Cat is lovely animal, i like it too.

They were mini mini. The smallest hamsters in nature. I was heartbroken when they gone.

Ideally it would be a dog, but our landlady won't allow it, sadly. the pets I do have are rats, which are amazing pets. they're affectionate, entertaining, very intelligent, cuddly and brilliant company. they establish a really strong bond with their people, and I love them dearly. they are also very clean and very easy to look after.

far from it. I keep them in a very LARGE cage, with lots of toys and places to hide and sleep. my girls are very spoilt. most cages people use for rats are far too small. they're active little creatures. they spend a good few hours out of the cage in the evenings, which they spend on the sofa with us. we keep an eye on them and make sure they don't go too far. they have got beneath furniture before, but as they are so tame and friendly, they usually come back when you call them, but I try to avoid it happening, in case they chew through a wire or something and harm themselves. so the cage is more for ther own safety when they can't be supervised than to restrain them. wild rats are only dirty because they tend to live around humans. if they live somewhere more natural, they are quite clean. it's only when they live around human waste they are dirty. they're still rather cute, I think, but I wouldn't try and handle them. they are not used to people. I do think that tame rats are excellent pets. especially for children as they are calmer and more docile than things like hamsters, which are more popular pets. they are also not nocturnal like hamsters, so are more active during the day (they have periods of sleeping and waking on and off through the day and night) they are also a lot more robust, so less likely to be hurt or frightened when being handled by a less experienced child. they are also a lot less nervous or likely to bite than hamsters. brilliant pets. you can also teach them to do tricks, as they are very intelligent. in fact, in the army, they are often trained to detect mines. as they are so clever, trainable, can detect the scent, and when they find it, they are trained to sit on it. as they are so light, it does not detonate like it might with even a small dog.

Hi, Galena! I assume you keep the rat in a small cage or plastic container to prevent it from running around your house, am i right? I will like to think she will be very difficult to catch once she is allowed to roam around the house free, she can probably hide in every corner or slit without much problem. Most of the rat i found in my house is not cute and is dirty, i find it difficult for me to like them. You are peculiar choice of pet. lol!

Wow, the rat can be trained to detect mine field, that is cool! They like the smell of explosive, may be the smell of it raises their appetite. If the soldier see it sit still on a spot, he must come to the conclusion there is a mine underneath the ground, it is no more a rat, it is a life saver.

My pet has to be a bird, any type of bird especially a parrot. I use to own a Budgie, he was a cute and entertaining fella. I love hand training birds so that they sit on your hand and hang around you out of the age. They're not that hard to look after and they're simply adorable. It's cool when you can teach them to talk!

A talking bird is cool, pal! Especialy if they can speak several languages apart from English. It will be a lot easier for them to learn Japanese language than English i assume. I like to teach my birds to speak all those foul term like 'F*ck You', 'As*hole', ' Bi*ch' etc... so that they can speak to my girl friend parent when they come visit my place. yes, birds are clever animals too, they do possess language talent with their sharp tounge. lol!!

I love dogs! I cannot keep count of how many I have owned. For me, they are my sisters and brothers. I always feel like their is a feeling of emptiness without them.Dogs are awesome creatures. Every time you come home from school, work, or wherever, they would greet you at the door and you can tell that they are always happy to see you. Even if you scold them, they would still come back to you. :D

Dogs love to greet theit owners, they never fail to do that every time you step into your house, it is quite a common trait among many dogs. They can be very loyal friends or partners to those they known well.

well DOG for me is the best animal must have to keep as pet. because mostly dogs are usually the animal that is easy to be trained and can easily understand human language, also it depends on how you handle them it with or without caress for them

If I could choose only one animal It would have to be a dog. I think they were given the title of man's best friend for a reason. They make extremely good companions and they protect you. Without a doubt I one day want to have a big Dog as my Pet. I believe Loyalty is one of the most valuable things and this is not very easy to find in humans, So that is another strong point in dogs.

I would love a medium or large dog. This way I would have someone to keep my company and someone to get out of the house. Like for walks for example. I could also take the dog with me when I go visiting my family. I would see if it could get along with my tow brother's dogs and one of nephews two dogs!

We have a dog. Or rather, I have a dog, the relationship with the hubby can be a bit difficult as he raises his voice at her. I have a dog because I love them, but also because if I didn't I'd be stuck in this house 24/7 and end up killing my husband because he can drive me nuts. I guess you could say that having a pet keeps me out of prison.

Yes, dog can fix into my family member structure, i think i can always allocate another space for it to live with me in my household. It is true my parent's dog is part of our family when i was a kid, unfortunately, he is long gone many years ago, my mother treated it more like a child than her partner, but for me, he is my childhood partner.

i definitely choose dogs, since i'm young my family owns a dog. Until now we still own a dog, they make a great pets. As soon as i got home after work everyday, they make your day happy and lively. They are stress relievers for me. I agree with you lampar that rabbits has a calming effect. They are fluffy and lovely. Makes me want to own one too.

I'm surprised you feel the same like me on a rabbit, it is like it has magic power on me, looking at it really help quite a bit to reduce my anxiety, i just can't explain why. lol! May be they are too lovely to look at, that might be the reason i feel better. Dog is nice too, i used to have one at home when i am a boy.

Hi, russel, it is no doubt you can't take your fishs out for a walk, but you can take them out for a swim with you in a pool or creek. They may not fetch stuff for you, except teach you to swim faster. lol!
