hello everyone! i actually don't know where to put this discussion under so I might just put this here. hehehe. anyway, everyone knows that I just got married. Now, my question is how to I get to start using my hubby's family name? because I just randomly used it lately but his mom said I need to process something for that, but she vaguely know anything about it.

I always thought that was a British tradition that kind of happened automatically. Even in the ex colonies, it is a routine way of life. But now, with the British government trying to keep everyone out of Britain, including the British citizens, the Embassies and High Commissions are now asking "How did you get that name?" I don't know the answer, so I'll be watching this thread closely. All I know, is that sooner or later, you'll get into trouble if you don't do something.

I don't know what it takes there, but I assume it's the same as in the US. Your name legally changes automatically when you get married. You need to notify some government entities - not sure how it works there, again, but here, we would just change the name on our Social Security number.

thanks for the response. when we got married the person in the ceremony who was doing the paperworks told me to just automatically change my name. i think you are right. =)

This is one of the positives about Italy - married women do not take on the surname of their husband It makes everything much easier on documents and official papers - and later if a divorce happens too.

I think you have to go to the city hall and bring your birth certificate and whatever documents necessary. You have to change your name there. Come to think of it, I've always liked the name Firelord. I think I might change mine to that and see how my mom would react.

I do not know how it's done there in the country where you are friend, but in our country I think it starts when you get your marriage certificate in the office of civil registry, are you married to a foreigner or a Filipino? I think you can make some searching in the internet or asking friends who have been to a similar situation, and I'm not really sure if you have to inform the right authorities as to your status in our country, good luck and congratz.
