I received a sad phone call today.

You might remember that I rescued a squirrel last week from the job site and decided to take on his care. He'd been doing well and seemed to be in good health. Then I got a call this afternoon that he was found under the wire cage at the bottom of the cage dead. I was on the road at the time, and this came as a terrible shock to me. None of us expected that at all. He got trapped and couldn't get back out. And since we're down the hall with an air cleaner on all night, we didn't hear him if he was screaming for help. He is the second rescue that has died on me now. The first was Lucky 2 years ago. RIP Mackenzie.

How very sad and chilling to think the poor little squirrel might have suffered. You did a good deed and saved it for awhile...now he is in squirrel heaven (I seriously believe animals live on)

I sure hope so, but it's still sad nonetheless.

You remind me of my sister, always rescuing little animals when you can. So sad when they don't make it, so triumphant when they do.
