There's something growing in my kitchen!

I was enjoying my lunch of brown rice and stir-fry pea sprouts yesterday, and I was mulling where I could get more fresh pea sprouts. I love, love, love sprouts (peas and mung bean, particularly). The ones I find at the supermarket are not as fresh as I want them to be. Then I remembered that when I was a teen, my dad used to grow pea sprouts at home. So I text him, and asked how to grow sprouts. I also googled about it, and lo and behold! I discovered a new world - the sprouting world! I didn't know there was so much information about it, and so many seeds that could be eaten sprouted! Peas and a lot of different beans - mung, lentils, soya, etc., grains - rice, wheat, barley, etc., brasicas - cabbages, broccoli, etc., and a whole lot more! Amazing! So, after work, I drop by the supermarket and buy mung seeds (another favorite). And, I've done my first experiment this morning. I also tried brown rice. So....in a few days, I'll see how successful I am with this new hobby! I'm so excited! How about you? Is there something new you've learned or done today or yesterday?

Well, I've always been a person that believes that there is not a complete day if you have not had the opportunity to learn something that day and for that reason, I try to learn a little something every day. With that said, today, the main thing that I learned was that when a friend of mine was telling me stories about his ex-girlfriend, he was not blowing smoke in my face, which is what I thought that he was doing. It turns out that his ex-girlfriend really is a crazy woman.

That's true. Life is all about learning...exploring possibilities. Like they say, never stop exploring! You should feel flattered that he's confided in you about his ex. Sometimes it takes courage for men to talk about relationships.

It's nice to eat those sprouts. I have learned from the health seminars that I have attended, those sprouts are very good for our health, they contain living substances responsible for life, like live enzymes.

That's right. They're much, much more healthy than the actual vegetable that they become (in the case of brasicas like cabbage, broccoli, etc.) and much healthier than eaten as seeds (in case of beans and grains). And they are tastier, too! It's amazing. Last night, when I went home, the seeds were already sprouting! I actually ate some of them this morning! Yummm!

I do not think I have learned anything new lately. I can make my own sourdough starter and yogurt, and I am pretty pleased with that. When you do it yourself you sure know what is in it.

Wow! I'd like to be able to make my own yogurt. Like you say, when you're not the one who dunnit, you don't know what's in it. That's one reason why I prefer making my own food sometimes.

As a child I never liked sprouts and or beans of any kind. I became very fond of them as I grew up and enjoy them very much. I don't grow anything here, sadly I use to when I owned my own home but since living in this apartment I have not been adventurous here. It is my boyfriend and I and we both love them but we buy them from the grocery store. Maybe next year I might try it but I am hoping to move from here. I hope you get some results too, it would be fun to hear the progress.

Hi HWG! I'm sad to hear you can't grow your sprouts anymore. The whole planting process is such a de-stressing activity (even if it's just sprouting seeds). I do hope you'd be able to move and be able to grow sprouts again. I see a lot of them sold in the grocery, but, I find they're not fresh enough for me. So, I decided to just grow them. I'll let you know 3 or 4 days from now what happens.

My mom used to make sprouts at home when I was young. Of course it took me twenty-five years to appreciate them. Last summer, through our local co-op we got some of the BEST sprouts! Local and zesty! I put them in salads, on sandwiches (which I don't usually eat, but they made it SO good) and in green drinks. I have to go to the health food store or Whole foods to buy seeds around here, so usually I just buy their sprouts. Since I'm the only one who eats them in my house.

I haven't tried them on my sandwiches yet. Maybe when I'm successful with my sprouts I will. I also haven't tried it on my drinks, though the rage here is the wheat grass drink. Gotta try it some time, too.

Nope... I haven't done anything new these past few days. That sounds interesting though. I wish you the best of luck in this new wold you are exploring!

Thanks! I don't know why I'm getting excited over sprouts but, it's making me look forward to the next few days, so, I'm not complaining.
