What makes a good discussion? What makes you want to respond? I see these discussions that go on and on and really wonder how that happens. Please enlighten me if you can...

I enjoy responding to discussions that I can give my own personal response to. If my response is going to be the same that everyone else said, then I typically skip those discussions. If the discussion starter doesn't come back and reply to others then I will stop responding in those discussions they start. A discussion is only a discussion when there is actually comments going back and forth.

Most times I miss out on all the fun, but the times that I don't I take full advantage of. I still sometimes feel awkward jumping into others response boxes but even that is subsiding. I actually enjoy the longer meatier discussions because the have more ways for me to put my personal spin on it. We all have different ways of participating here at mylot, finding what works for you is the key to success.

True true! I am finding myself skipping the larger discussions because I just don't have anything of value to add. I get a bit irritated when there is no response back. I am finding I can't comment back as quickly as I want to but I will always come back and have a response. Thanks!

Thank you for that advice. I do seeming to be finding my own groove here, and what works for me which is making it a lot easier. I do also like the longer discussions and I love being able to learn from others perspectives. Everyone is different with different ideas and it is fun and exciting to see where I am in my thoughts.

It depends on what you define as "good". If you see it as lots of responses (which don't actually earn you anything unless you reply to the replies), then just about any banal topic on pop culture or the minutae of your life will have a chance. I define "good" as discussions that create little mini discussions within some of the replies: that is, I reply to you, you reply to my reply, someone else chimes in, I come back, you come back, another new person joins in. An example is the discussion I have given the url for: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2578132.aspx?p What attracts me is intelligent questions drawing intelligent responses, but everyone will have their own preference. By the way, I know I have replied to your discussion, but normally a subject line "tell me your thoughts" would drive me away. There's nothing in that line to give a clue what you're discussing and the line is hardly catchy. The subject line is probably the most important thing since it is there that you do or don't catch attention. Lash

I also enjoy the discussions with lots of interaction by the discussion starter and the members that are responding, makes the discussions so much more fun.

Thank you for the advice. I have been wondering about the subject line and what catches people's attention. I am finding some really good side conversations like that within the topics. Thank you for the example. I love to see where the conversations go and think it is great when I get the e-mail that the discussion is still going.

To present a good discussion, it must start a great title or topic. Then, a precise and interesting contents. I was trying it myself to get more comments from other as well, but then, as I can observe, more people here in mylot are interested in mylot- how to do start this, and that, and that sort that a newbie could ask and the ways to earn.

There does seem to be a lot of people willing to help you learn when you are new. But I like the meaty conversations. The ones where you can learn about life and learn how to adjust to be better.
