If you have your tattoo done by a reputable company which offers a guarantee for its work, there should be no danger of cancer.
Many pigments which were used in the past (and may still be used by 'back street', illegal operations and amateur or 'ethnic' tatooers) may well be poisonous and carcinogenic. Just be very careful where you get your tattoo done and always ask them for their Terms and Conditions (AND read them!)
