Smart Gilas Pilipinas (Philippines) Aiming for a shot at 2012 London Olympics
September 22, 2011 10:25pm CST
The Philippines has entered the quarterfinals against Chinese-Taipei of the FIBA-Asia qualifying round for a slot in the basketball tournament in the 2012 London Olympics. Asia is given one automatic slot for the winner of this Asian qualifying round. If the Philippines wins the quaterfinal match, it will advance to the semifinals, and then to the finals. The team needs three wins to get that prestigious slot. In those wins, the Philippines has to get wins over powerhouse China and Iran. Goodluck to team Philippines!

I also watched some of their fights, and they were pretty awesome. But the problem is many of their shots don't enter the basket.I think they should focus on that. But they are fast so they have a chance of winning it. I wish they win.Go team Philippines!

yes, there are things that they need to improve to really get that slot to the London Olympics. but each game, the team is improving. I hope they get those three wins. The first one will be against Chinese-Taipei, the next one will likely be against Iran. and then the last one will likely be against China. I wish our team the best in this tournament.

Unfortunately they lost to Korea in a battle for 3rd place. It was a good game though. I was informed that the Smart Gilas lineup was supposed to be a different set. It was said that it was changed at the last minute so the original team who practiced for 2 years has gone down the drain. Oh well, that's life.
