Have you ever taken dance lessons? Which dances did you learn?

I enjoyed taking ballroom dance lessons several years ago. I learned the waltz, the foxtrot, the swing, and the cha-cha. I always liked the waltz the most. What dances have you learned and what do you like the best?

vienese waltz, foxtrot and tango. I always wanted to learn swing instead. I would say that the waltz was my favorite of the ones that I learned. If I could do it over again, or if i just felt like going back for lessons, I would learn swing because it is a type of dance you could actually use in bars and at outings. I am not a really big fan of bars but you cannot really use any waltz or foxtrot and not look silly. Most of the music these days does not really suit those types of dances either.

You're definitely right about the bars not supporting ballroom dancing. And the swing is absolutely the most versatile of the dances that works well in bars. It also can look pretty flashy if you learn a few twirls and twists. I have found a couple of places here in my town that have the old Big Band type of groups that play earlier in the evenings now and then where you can do the tango, the foxtrot, waltz, etc. I haven't been to them in a while, may have to search them out again.

i never really attend any dance lessons, but people say that im kind of good at it though i suck at traditional and folk dances it's just maybe im hard wired for modern hip hop dance and ball room dancing. It's easy to dance, just need some coordination with your hand and foot movements.

Exactly - and one must also have some sense of rhythm. I've seen people out there that have no rhythm and it looks like they are dancing to a totally different song!

You're funny. As I think about it, most of the people that I have seen like that are usually quite tall and lanky. Is that how you've seen there?

I have never taken dance lessons before. I am not sure which ones I prefer. Maybe line dancing.

I also took line dancing - wow! That was back in the 80's! Time flies! Line dancing is fun and we mixed it up with country and western - that was fun too - in the country and western dance, my favorite was the horseshoe.

When I was around 10, my dad was in military & he took the whole family to an officer's party. There I saw a couple doing argentine tango. My dad noticed me watching them & asked me if I would be interested in taking some lessons. I've taken lesson for few years then moved to U.S. I haven't found too many places around where I live that tought Argentine Tango. My girl friend & I go out to some clubs & we do our thing. When my daughter was around 13, we went to a friend of mine's wedding & saw me dancing. Now she's into it.

I think that is a very difficult dance! I think it's awesome that you learned it and found it fascinating. I'll bet it was quite an experience to learn such a dance, let alone to show people that you know how to do it! Fun stuff!

Hi Kizzy Cat fish: Even if I'm Latin I gave to tell you that I'm terrible at dancing. So I have taken some dance lessons with my aunt who is a really good dancer. I have tried to learn how to dance salsa, merengue and a little bit of club but as you can imagine I was not actually the best student. I'm more a nerd. ALVARO
