Sicker than a dog, but still going to work.

People with office jobs can usually use a sick day when they need to. Me, I have no such thing with my job. I can't just call in sick and stay home. I wanted to do that yesterday. But despite how sick I was, I still went to work and worked harder than I ever have. My boss said I looked like He!! warmed over. Believe me, I felt as bad as I looked. By the time I got home, I was running a fever. This went from a sore throat 3 days ago, to a full on chest cold 2 nights ago. I don't feel as bad today, but I feel so drained. I haven't eaten much, don't have much energy today and have lost 2lbs as a result. I just haven't had an appetite. I guess being sick helps to lose weight, but this was never my intention. Hey, it works though. I'm contemplating going back to bed for about an hour, I do have time to sleep a little more, but I'm not sure if I could fall asleep. I'm hoping that today is a better day.

I hope that you feel a lot better soon. There is nothing worse than feeling really ill, but having to go to work as well is really a way to make yourself iller than you were in the first place.I use to try to carry on no matter how ill i was, but in the end sometimes we can not carry on, so end up having to take time out of work.

hope you feel better soonest! it seems for me, even though i do get sick days (5 for the whole year because i only work 3 mornings a week) that i drag myself to work a lot when i am sick (i have health issues and seem to pick up every bug that is around!)

Hi Kris, I have that kind of job too. Calling in sick would put a lot of people out of their way and so I don't do it no matter what. Also, I don't get paid if I call out and in today's economy I really can't afford that. Luckily for me, I'm pretty healthy and usually it's not an issue anyway. Hope your feeling better!!

Oh boy I remember dragging my body day in and day out no matter how I felt. I had such dedication and no fever and or cold would have kept me home. I understand the feeling of being loyal to a job but hindsight now I wonder if it was worth it. At any rate, do you have the weekend off? If so do get some much needed rest so that you can start the week with more energy next week. If not try not to do as much at home so you can rest a bit more.

When I'm sick, I sometimes stay home. When I was younger I used to work and go to school even though I was really sick. It never worked: I kept getting sicker and one time I had to stay home for two weeks 'cause I had NO energy left at all. I don't like sitting at home. It might be nice for one day so you can sleep and relax, but it gets really depressing and boring. I rather go to school and work because then I feel like I've done something with my day.
