I saw many people with good heart donating things to help people who experienced flood during Pedring and Quiel. They are wrapping all the goods in plastic bags. If the people receive those relief goods didn't keep or throw the plastic bags in the right way. We might experience more tremendous flood.

Hope they will throw the plastic bags in the right way which I guess they will do because of their experience of the recent flood.

In areas where people do not care the least about their environment, floods and sorts of catastrophes just take place normally. Flooding takes place even at the lightest hint of rain in areas where people throw their garbage just about everywhere. People will have to learn that we reap the harvests of our own irresponsible acts which pollute the environment. Let us all lend a helping hand to make sure that our canals and sewers do not get clogged by unwanted garbage. Every little thing that we do, helps so much and helps a long, long way.

I think before distributing the relief goods in plastic, the people should reminded to properly dispose of those plastics, lest it will cause floods again as that they are experiencing. However, since it's flood ,it's the most convenient way of wrapping those relief goods. It keep them dry and should it gets dropped it will not get wet.

Even if you remind them a hundred times they don't care. This is one of the major problem, discipline. We all of us has discipline we no longer experiencing this kind of calamities. What i hate most is that some part of the city they intentionally cover and stock some garbage in the drainage so that they will earn.

Well, that's the best possible way to send items to people suffering due to the flood. Plastic bags are the only materials that can keep things dry on the inside and it's common in everybody's home. WHo can be bothered to find a waterproof bag when the present situation needs immediate help If the question is turned to u, do u have any waterproof bags at home to help those victims?? lol :D

I hope with what we had all experienced we had learned from now, I pray people will stop being hard headed and dispose of trash properly after they have enjoyed it's contents, I know how evil plastic bags are to our environmentbut we don't have much choice right now cause it's the fastest and most convenient to use at the situation they are in right now, so it's really up to the people at the receiving end of these relief goods

yes i think its a plastic bags were using in the relief goods, plastic is the one major problem in the Philippines because it can make clogging, so the water will pour, but we have no choice to what to do in plastics its needed in everyday life, but maybe next 10 years hopefully we do not need plastic bag but paper bags will be used like in USA, when they bought groceries they put it in the special paper bags, but i always think what will we do if plastic bags were gone, because we need it in everyday life because we need it to put trash on the plastics, in groceries, in markets, hayss.

I know what you mean. We have to be responsible for the environment and global warming and littering.

You are right, syoti. People must take good care of their garbage. If everyone of us makes sure that the garbage that we dispose of are being disposed of properly, there will be no problems arising from such matters. The environment suffers so much from degradation because of our irresponsible acts. I therefore encourage everyone to take cognizance of the fact that we need to care for the environment in all our little ways. It never takes so much effort in order to be able to do so. Then all of us will reap the fruits of our efforts.

That is a good observation. Indeed with the countless plastic bags of relief goods I wonder where all those plastic bags go. If the flood victims are not responsible enough those plastic bags will certainly just be disposed anywhere they want. So this mean those plastic bags will add up to the many plastic trashes that have been causing clogged drainage and manholes which is one of the reasons why we oftentimes experience flood. How sad!

I think they used plastic bags to avoid goods from getting wet because they're distributing to places that are still experiencing flood. And It's cheaper compared to paper bags. I think they are aware that it will only cause future damage to the environment but their priorities is to give immediate help. You know what in Alabang most of the establishments and in public market they are using brown bags.

There are many people who have a good heart and are willing to extent their help no matter how small it is. Yes, those plastic bags will surely caused us another problem if not disposed properly after using it. I hope we should be (each of us) be responsible in our surroundings. have a good day

That is a good point. I think there is also a need to remind the people who will receive the relief goods not to improperly throw these plastic bags since doing so will worsen our flood problems. Thanks for your insights.

I think somewhere along the line, it would also be the responsibility of the city and the local government to help out here in this aspect. It is of course the responsibility of the people to make sure that they throw the plastic bags where they are supposed to be thrown.

I imagine they will keep the bags to help keep their few belongings safer and drier. I bet they need the bags for sorting through anything they can salvage. I am glad that there are people who will help others out.

Well I couldn't agree more with you! :D Its true that plastics are the cheapest and the most convenient thing to use to wrap the relief goods. i just hope they use some kind of a biodegradable plastics. But of course even so, if these are not disposed of properly, then you are correct, it will again add to the problems of flooding and clogged sewage system

two years ago we experienced that kind of flood. Ondoy left a lot of us here at Marikina shocked. from the rich ones to the poor ones. we are all devastated with that. lucky enough that our city is really clean and people knows how to segregate their garbage so after the rain the flood subsides as well. there were no flood but ofcourse the mud was there. this cities i saw on tv the water is stagnant. that means the drainage are all clogged with garbage. i agree with you that if these people will not learn to throw or to recycle anything that is plastic then this flood that they are experiencing will just happen all over again. it is hard to educate people then when it happens to them they will blame it with somebody else. sad.

I think, they would. They would throw those plastic bags anywhere, that's how it is in the Philippines that is why floods happen here, drainage are like thrash cans, full of plastics, cans, etc.

The goods are wrapped in plastic bags to ensure that it will not get wet and just end up to be a waste. You are right, the reciepient should know how to recycle those bags. Maybe along with every donations, there should be a short talk about taking care of nature.
